Ok I already have one xm-25 or whatever its called. I have the new evga 760 mb. If i put 2 of the ssd in raid would it be able to handle the speed or should I get a dedicated card.

If I should get a card which one should I get. I have been looking and I seen

and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816115073

The one is much more expensive then the first I know thats mainly because of the x8 to x1 pcie connections and the SATA / SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) (which I have no idea what that means.

Basically would the cheap one be able to handle a raid ssd setup.

EDIT: also from what I was made to understand the south bridge handles raid hard disk drives. Now if I got a raid card would that ease on the heat that the sb is producing

The LSI card is more expensive because it supports up to 8 SAS/SATA ports in RAID 0/1/1E/10. The HighPoint one supports only 2 eSATA ports.

Because they are both adapter cards and not hareware RAID controller cards, there should be little difference in performance in a two-disk RAID0 setup. If your motherboard supports firmware RAID such as Intel Matrix RAID, you should just use the onboard RAID.

what about heat wise. If the south bridge is what handles hd and raid then Will it produce less heat. My 3 sli is right on top of it and causes extra heat

EDIT: sorry forgot to say thank you. Lol I appreciate the help.

Suppose that you have a motherboard with X58 chipset. Knowing that you run a tri-SLI setup, I assume that it runs in x16/x8/x8 mode. Now you have one PCI-E 1.1 x1 slot and no PCI-E 2.0 slot left to use. There is no room to add another PCI-E 2.0 card.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the temperature of the southbridge as long as there is adequate air flow.

Intel Matrix RAID leaves a most of the "handling" to the CPU, so I guess heat is not an issue.

I have the evga 760 the way its setup I have plenty. 4 pcie 2.0 x16 a pci and a pcie x1

and the tri sli runs at 16x 16x and either 8x or 16x. I can place 3 tri sli cards in. a raid pcie x1 card and a physc all in the motherboard at once. So I def have the room

Picture of motherboard and specs

Go to this other thread I made it will show you a pic with everything in it.
tri sli one physx card and 1 audio card
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2031853

so as you can see I can put it in. Now the reason I wanna lower the temp of my south bridge is because its right under neith my tri sli system and I think its causing some heat issues. Now if I am able to take away some of what the south bridge is resonsible for I believe that will lower the tempature down and help my graphics cards. (mainly the first in the set of 3).The raid card is so small also that I dont have to worry about producing alot of heat next to the sli cards. Also sinse its so thin the fan I have pointed at my graphics card (took off my side have 2 fans pointed right at graphics card to reduce heat).

So please if I place a raid card in the pcie 2.0 slot and hook up my 2 intel ssd willl the card be able to handle the speed and will it lower the southbridge temps.
