I've been a AMD nut for a few years and I see that most people here use AMD. What going with Intel Lately, and are they coming out with any good CPU's. Also what is a moderatly price one for a gaimg manchine

AMD and Intel both make very good cpu's. AMD seems to offer a bit more for your money right now, but the fact is, you can't tell any dif without benchmarks. Don't get me wrong, benchmarks are fine, I just like things that are a bit more interactive. Almost forgot, Intel daul cores are way cheaper than AMD DC's, though most folks around here say the AMD's are better. Since playing a game while burning a dvd doesnt give me a chuby, I don't really care.

No.

AMD are better in numerous ways and significantly so and with the 3800+ Intel isn't cheaper.

Haven't seen dual core prices have you? Didn't think so.

AMD is hands down the victor until Intel cleanses itself of the P4 design entirely. Don't get me wrong, I love my 3GHz P4, it's just that they cannot raise clock speeds anymore and that was their entire design. I feel I have nothing to upgrade to when comparing the price of something newer.

Even dual core, only thing Intel has going for it is cheaper cost, still a P4 which means performance is behind AMD.

I get no satisfaction informing the ill-informed...I do it more for the other ppl who come in and read these forums as purely informational. I make sure they get the facts instead a bunch of false information.

Do you realise a 3800+ is ~ 20% faster then a 820 in multimedia...Figure a 2 hour encoding to your favorite codec and then figure 20% faster...That is 24 minutes faster...i think you can feel that genius....How about 30% in games??? How about 20-30% in CAD rendering??? You and the INtel crowd can believe that statement above but doesn't mean it is true...Oh wait....I think you probably meant you couldn't tell the difference running internet explorer, right??? :roll:

I just gave you real world applications....I commend you for not getting off on 3dmark, superpi 1mb, or sandra scores....

Yeah and Semprons are cheaper then Intel Dual cores....What does that prove??? Being cheaper as seen with Intel products doesnt really translate that much....Intel is just selling them for what they are worth...

What I have shown you is for you to build an 820 system the money you will save is really a lot less then most will have you believe....The numbers are there...dispute them if you wish....

Sales are fine but if they are not obtainable a majority of the time then what are they good for...PLus he paid 400 for it still and that is with an 820....



If you really think about what you are buying iot is depressing...An 820 is a 2.8ghz P4 prescott without HT...ouch....You have to OC otherwise like I said you are getting a cpu slower in single threaded apps then cpus from 2-3 years ago...

In fact if you compare performance and price i think AMD is cheaper
Yes you can buy cheapo Pentium Ds but you cant match that with one of the X2s.
