is there a free imaging program i can use???
would be nice if i can image my old C: partition on old HD onto this new SSD. i hate to waste time reinstalling everything

Beware of doing this, as your sectors could end up misaligned which reduces the life of your SSD unless you fix it after the fact. Here's an article on HD to SSD migration. Frankly, after reading the article, I felt it was easier and cleaner to just reinstall, but your mileage may vary.

FYI, this deal is back again! Rebate is good for today only though.

For the record, I just rebuilt my system with my new one and it seems pretty zippy. I don't notice a difference from my old Vertex 2 anyway.

"may be paid with a prepaid reward card"
I was thinking about getting it even having to deal with the damnable rebate.

Reward cards? Eff that.

I don't see the problem here. It's just a prepaid credit card that is loaded with $20. That's pretty common with rebates now days.

Rebate extended to 10/31/12.
Theyre really trying to push theses drives... wonder why?
Not thread crapping since im very tempted to buy, but getting a little paranoid.

It doesnt seem like there are any glaring problems with these drives as long as they already have most recent firmware, but does anyone remember these drives having any other problems?

I've been running one of these for awhile on XP and haven't had any issues, they are one of the most reliable SSD's one can buy. The Intel SSD Toolbox even lets me do a manual trim within XP.

I believe retailers are blowing out all the SATA II SSD's because they are "old" technology now. All new drives are SATA III with faster speeds and it seems the cost to manufacture them is dropping too.

Intel SSDs are some of the most reliable on the market, they don't have issues. If you want to find a fault with this drive, it's that it's slower than current SSD offerings (but still much faster than a spinning drive). I imagine they are just trying to clear out old stock.

Probably because they are the first generation drives to support Trim, meaning they are old and "slow" (for an SSD). It would be like finding a warehouse full of Core 2 Duo CPUs now that we're several generations beyond that, and dumping them on the market for $20 each.

I can attest on 4 different machines now using Acronis 2010 to clone from existing HD OS to SSD that afterwards upon checking partition alignment it was right on so I assume it depends on the cloning program.

I've been meaning to jump on this for the week or so it's been going on, but I'm in FL so after the shipping and tax it's almost $47 for me and that's if the rebate comes several moths from now.

These drives set the bar for reliability of SSD's. Keep in mind I am a Samsung 830 Fanboy but that would be trumped by my confidence in the Intel G2's as given by the fact that my main system is running 2 in Raid 0 and with 0 confidence of failure. They will be replaced by faster drives before they ever have issues I'm sure.

My wife's work lappy has had this drive in it for 2.5 years, while its noticeably slower than my 830 it is still like greased lightening compared to even the fastest 7200rpm spindle drive I have in my quiver.

So does this drive come with a 2.5"-to-3.5" bracket or will I need to buy that separately?

The Samsung 830's I got didn't come with brackets either so I just used velcro tape on 3.5" bracket.

I bought this drive 3 years ago for my main PC. Still running rock solid! Don't forget to update the firmware as well.

I'm trying to find if this is a 7mm SSD and thus compatible with a laptop. Only PC I own that doesn't have an SSD is an older C2D laptop, so this would be a great fit for that.

I'm pretty sure it is. Traditionally these Intel drives were 7mm and came with a 2.5mm spacer. If the drive is exactly as in the photo, then it is missing the spacer and thus 7mm. Also, the SATA plug area is around 5mm tall, so on a 9.5mm drive would look like it was half the thickness and on a 7mm drive looks like it is most of the thickness.

I have both the 320 and 330 Intel series but they are all 9.5 mm. The only company I believe that makes 7.0 mm or 7.5 mm is OCZ. You might want to check their homepage.
