Nice, I paid $300 last year. And regardless, you'll never need a system drive faster than this. Well you will when everything can become instantaneous.

According to camelegg.com it's been pretty consistent at $300 from last fall until March of this year when it dropped to around $220. But yeah 50% off after one year is pretty crazy...

Makes me wonder if G3 is nearing.
Could be! But back in 2009 they were king of the hill. There's a lot more very capable competition these days, especially sandforce-1200 drives like the vertex 2.

Anybody know the difference between the two 40gb drives? I just saw the G2R5 on sale at BB for $99 and I had a $50 gift card, so I jumped on it. Just wondering how the G2K5 is different.

EDIT: Just noticed that the G2K5 says "with internal SATA and power cables." Could that be the difference? The G2R5 didn't come with those cables, which I didn't need. But it did come with the 3.5" mounting bracket plate, which was awesome.

Looks like this rebate isn't just for newegg, and amazon have this drive for $5 less and no shipping, no tax of course.

In reference to your edit, I believe you are correct. There are "OEM" versiosn that just have the hard drive then he ones that have a bit more. There are no differences in eh actual constitution of the drives.

ANd this is a damn good deal. I've been using this drive on my main rig and couldn't be happier.

Not to threadcrap, but NE had the Gskill Phoenix Pro 80GB (SF1200) for $130 no rebate just a couple of days ago. I've noticed that, generally speaking, the SandForce drives are usually priced better than the Intels and they also perform better.

Correct, and it was such a good deal it sold out. I wish I had moved on the 120 gig/$220ish deal a week ago or so. The intel option is still very good, however.

No threadcrap offense taken!

Actually I was going to doubt this drive as being too new, but a similar and celebrated drive the Vertex 2 90GB is also down to $169.99 after MIR!
