I would go with the MX510 for gaming and if money is no object, my second choice would be MX500.

Also remember everybody has different size hands so comfort factor/feel may decide the difference between the above mice meantioned.

Ok, I tried the MX510 and then I tried my brother's IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. And I like the Explorer more than the MX510, I think it's more responsive and precise. But I dont know why ppl said the Mx510 is better. Have you used the explorer 3.0 or 4.0 yet?

I have both the Intellimouse 3 and the MX500. I prefer the Logitech - better feel on the buttons and seems smoother on mouse pad. More buttons on the Logitech makes for great options at the touch of a button

why ppl said the Mx510 is better

It has the latest/better sensor for very fast tracking(ideal for gaming)infact it`s the fastest optical mouse for gaming at the moment, the drivers should be installed, also a good gaming mouse pad and even teflon feet will bring out the best in any good mouse, especially for gaming.

Actually I think the Razer Viper is the fastest mouse.

Technically I guess you`re right, but it has only 3 buttons and that sucks big time for gaming,it`s just not enough, compare that to MX510 eight buttons ,I know which one I would choose .

Originally had a MX300 which was a perfect fit for my hand... when I upgraded to a MX510 it took me about a week to get used to the different shape... almost sent it back. Glad I didn't though. I did notice a difference in precision, and the extra buttons help in BF1942... except the forward button, it's a little hard to press due to its location. Still in the process of mapping my buttons.

i happen to have the old 3.0 while my friend shelled out 40 bucks to upgrade to the 4.0

the 4.0 has its perks, with a cool all silver color and the tilt wheel, and the fact that the wheel now scrolls smoothly instead of having the little groves it moved along in

other than that, i personally think the mouse is a bit clunky, and despite the cool tilt wheel function, i dont really find that much use for it (graphic designing would find it useful), and i think the 3.0 fits my hand better than the 4.0

my opinion of course

After using MX500 for few months, I sold it back. Too many problems... Really really bad drivers, cursor shaking when playing games, mouse feet falling off, buttons getting stuck, not being able to hold on to the back/foward key till I want to turn the page on the internet explorer, etc... alot of small problems that drove me crazy. I bought another explorer 3.0 that I sold after getting the MX500 and vowed never to go back to Logitech. I don't know about Explorer 4.0 or MX510, because I've never tried them. Also, the problems I was having with MX500 may have been fixed now, but I'm completely happy with my 3.0 at the moment.

The Logitech has an odd shape. The Explorer is awesome. The tilt is great! I can't wait until I can map this to lean O_O

Logitech has the upperhand in everything except drivers, and warranty service.

btw, I own a mx700, and the mouseware 9.80 drivers are absolutely terrible when compared to intellipoint 4.01.

It says V9.80 are for MX510 ONLY
NOTE: MOUSEWARE V9.80 IS ONLY FOR THE MX510 MOUSE.

LINK. .

You should be using Version: 9.79.1 build 25 for MX700/500.

I realize that logitech labels the drivers as mx510 only, but in reality all it enables is the higher precision of the mx510's optical sensor if detected. For the other mice, it makes no difference whatsoever. I used 9.79 before with no difference whatsoever in any apparent driver functionality. When I say the drivers suck, Im reffering to how "game detection" doesnt always work; how there are no program specific settings; how key binds rarely work 100%; how some functions(such as minimize all) do not always work; how emexec crashes when I have low battery because it repetedly spams me with 3 low battery messages at once; and how logitech support refuses to correct any of this.

-Steve

And yes, I have tried using 3rd party apps to remedy this, but

I absolutely agree. Logitech software that "helps" such as it's "cool" little program selector is annoying! While I had it installed, if I pushed the scroll wheel down (something I do constantly since it is jump in HL/CS/TFC/...), it opened that menu! I had to conpletely disable the center button functionality. Logitech drivers/software for mice sucks.

Like I said, the new tilt action scroll wheel will prove valuable in games that you can lean in. Great shape to boot.

I like the extra buttons on the logitech, and the new lifestyle series included the tilt wheel, but it isnt a performer...

I am really undecided. Maybe a trip to KompUSSR to test the feel of each mouse will help the decision.
