Wanting to try an optical mouse a year or two ago, I bought an Intellimouse Explorer 1, hated it, returned it, and went back to my Logitech Mouseman ball mouse. The IE was too big and I felt like I couldn't control it as well (gave it a few days too). Also I like to rest my fingers (doesnt everyone??) on the top (main) mouse buttons but I kept hitting them on accident (the sides onces too if I remember) because they were way to easy to press on the IE.
Is the new IE 3 any better with any of these? I hear it's smaller. How much? What about the buttons?
I'm interested in changing only because I want one that has the higher scanning rate. I don't think there's a new Mouseman Optical w/ it yet.

Slickone, I saw a new LogiTech optical mouse today, corded, that had two optical sensors on it. This may be worth looking into, hope this helps.

the new intellimouse is a bit smaller than the original, and might help those with smaller hands as it has some shape chages.

As I said

<< I don't think there's a new Mouseman Optical w/ it yet. >>

A Mouseman style is the only Logitech I'd get. I don't care for the other little round ones. The Mousemans are great.

The new MS Optical rocks. Their is a difference between the wireless version and the wired version though. The wireless version feels so much better in my hand. If the structure of both mice were the same I would pick it up in a second.

Everybody in my LAN party purchased the new wireless Intellimouse. It certainly fit great. Unfortunately, the bulk of the mouse - caused mostly by the added weight of batteries - created unwanted friction, causing the mouse to perform poorly in FPS type games. Needless to say, we all returned them and purchased the improved version 3 of the wired intellimouse explorer.

An issue with wireless mice and games is that you need an almost zero response time with your mice, and the wireless ones cant provide that. I will stick to corded mice for a long time

The MS Explorer 3.0 is very nice. It's a little tall, but its worth the trouble. I previously had a MS Intellimouse w/Intellieye modded with a Blue LED. Not sure if I want to go back to it...

Are the Explorer 3's buttons better than the too-easy-to-press buttons on the Explorer 1?

I went from an Intellimouse explorer 1 to the 3 version and I love the difference in size. My roomie has the old version and I hate it when I use it. Mine seems lighter and smaller, and that's how they should be.

I have both the Intellimouse 1 and the 3.0 (corded)
On the 1.0 I can't fully cupped the mouse when I play FPS game, too big for my hand, and I can barely reach the forward thumb button.

On 3.0, I can cupped fine, better grip lines, but I still can't reach the top forward thumb button without readjusting my whole palm. Kinda annoying so I only use the back button frequently.

That's OK with me, since my Mouseman only has one thumb button anyway. So the 3.0 has 5 buttons (including the wheel button)?

As far as being easy to press, instead of being able to reach them (which was however another problem I had w/ the 1.0), I was referring to the button sensitivity. With the 1.0, I kept accidentally pressing the buttons when I didn't want to. With the Mouseman, I can rest my fingers on the buttons w/out pressing them, but then just a light press when I want to will activate the buttons.

I just purchased the 3.0 today. Is the mouse wheel supposed to be so stiff and solid and have a very loud click to it? I had a good old MS Wheelmouse optical and I loved the wheel on it, which was stiff enough to be decisive, but not nearly as loud. Is the explorer 3.0 supposed to be like this?

Looking at the Intellimouse Explorer display in the store, it's a little hard for me to tell if it was the version 3 or not. If I was looking at a 3.0, it's just a little smaller, and still very rounded. The new cordless version was is shaped better IMO, more ergonomic (a little more like my Logitech Mouseman). BTW, the newest Mouseman corded and cordless (now called Dual Optical) are now small egg shaped, like their regular wheelmouse. Pretty dump if you ask me. The old design was hard to beat IMO. Plus the thumb button is now too low, towards the base of the mouse.

How can I tell by looking at pictures of the box on ebay if it's an Intellimouse Explorer version 3 (corded) or not? Are the boxes different?

I was thinking about getting a cordless, but the new Mouseman cordless optical still has problems according to this with fast games. Does the new Intellimouse Explorer cordless?
