Intel's response to the $79 Ryzen 5 1600?

I wish there was a Microcenter in Hawaii... My cousin needs an upgrade from their A8-9600 for fortnight gaming.

£105 from amazon, £119 for the 1600x. And yes, the 9100f has slightly better single thread perfromance which usually means better gaming however it still gets beaten down a lot by the 1600 in gaming cause lots of games tend to utilise 4 cores so then the 9100f get's maxed out at 100% and starts to lose frames against the 1600 due to the 6c/12t and still having plenty of headroom left

Seems like no-brainer to buy the R5 1600 at that price. Use the mobo discount on a B450 board, then drop in a 3rd or 4th gen Ryzen down the line. You'll need some DDR4 RAM, but that's pretty cheap right now too; Ryzen benefits from decent RAM though.

I've just been watching a video benchmarking the 9100F, 8400 and 9400f. The i3 does surprisingly well matching the 8400.

First time I have seen a Core i3 below $100 in a while:

It doesn't do badly except for Anthem and the witcher 3 where it does do pretty badly. For a cheap 1080p gaming box with a modest GPU it seems like a solid choice.

I have 4670K @4.4GHz ie 4C/4T but it's outdated really, if i keep pressed ctrl+tab on chrome and tabs starts changing rapidly cpu usage stays @100% and yes with previous X5650 @4ghz this wouldn't happen so what i am saying 4C/4T is total crap in 2019, go all they way 6C/12T.

Yes it is not ideal but for some people it is ok. I have a friend who I built his PC in 2011 an i3. He is perfectly happy playing single player games 1080p medium video settings. Just recently he is starting to play games that his system is below the minimum spec for such as Far Cry 5. His requirement for a PC is that it be as cheap as possible lol. Perhaps this 9100 will find its way into his system, unless I can convince him to pony up for an r5 or an i5. My point is it is good to have choices at all levels of price and performance.

The price/performance comparisons should include the cost of the motherboard and RAM. And cost of the cooler if using an aftermarket one is needed for higher performance.

Also, for comparing performance in games, pairing a $100 CPU with a $700 graphics card is an almost useless test.

Yes it is unfortunate that recently graphics card prices have really got out of hand. Hopefully with the release of the 5700(XT) and AMD's price cut this trend for increasing prices is coming to an end.
