The intent of the policy is to prevent sellers from tampering with the search result, known as "search manipulation". This is not fair to sellers who play by the rules, or buyers looking for something legitimate.

Things like "earphones fits iPod MP3 player Sansa Dell DJ walkman" is a violation since the earphones in question are totally generic and fits a great range of products, but the seller is using keywords like ipod to cause their stuff to be shown up in search and this is the exact thing they're trying to prevent.

If you're looking for iPod specific accessories or iPod itself, this crap is a big headache.

But again, what if Joe Moron types "headphones for ipod" in the search window? Do you want to penalize both the buyer and the sellers of non-Apple brand headphones, when obviously he was looking for anything that would work?

I agree with ebay. "Like new" is subjective, and really has lost all of its meaning.

sure, saying "like new" means it's not a brand new unit, but it does say that it may as well be. Anything less and it isn't "like new"

They need to crack down further on excessive shipping & handling before they lay a hand on this though.

OK......situation that I am facing. I bought a quilting frame for my mum for her 77th birthday. Bought it brand new from Hancock Fabrics about two months before her birthday. The evening before her birthday, I unboxed it, assembled it, and left it set up in her living room. (The frame is 84" long, consequently needing a lot of room to have it sit out.)

She sees it that morning....and it wasn't exactly the frame she'd been wanting, much to my chagrin. So, I took it apart, put it back into its box, and took it home....never used in any way other than putting it together. (I did get the exact one she wanted a week later.........)

Now, I'd have returned it but it was over 30 days after purchase and the store politely refused to take it back.....and I understand, it was outside of the return time period allowed by the store.

So, going to list it on ebay for sale......not exactly an item that has widespread appeal in any town or city......most of the stores that do stock these frames only keep one or two at most in stock. Not exactly a fast moving item.....and for $200, it's a semi-major purchase for a quilter. I'm planning on listing it as a NEW item because, outside assembling it, the frame was never used at all.

Does this pass ebay's requirements for new in the listing?
