Interesting i cant ghost my XP OS to a new HDD

i cant do it via ntfs partition that is
i get a cluster count prob
but fat32 works

tried multiple hdds and reinstalled many times
interesting that my pal has yet to have a prob
anyone ?

Ghost doesn't work with the new version of ntfs that XP uses.

Drive Image 5.0 works great however.

So it works okay with FAT32 then? I have ghosted my WinXP installation but so far have not had to revert to the image backup yet. I am using FAT32.

Actually, I couldn't get Ghost 2001 to work with XP at all, although some people say it worked for them using FAT32.

I have an X-15 Cheetah with two equal partitions. The first is Win98SE (FAT32) & the second is XP Corporate (NTFS). I BU the entire disc to a 2nd HD every couple of days.

When I tried to use Ghost I either got an error immediately when Ghost started, or when it reached the XP partition. I tried reformatting the second partition to FAT 32 & reinstalling XP but I still had the same problems.

I read a thread on an XP newsgroup about exactly this problem. It had over 200 responses & the majority of the responses where from people that couldn't get Ghost to work correctly with XP. Someone responded to try Drive Image 5.0, so I tried that & it worked perfectly. I have been using it ever since.

Ghost works fine on NTFS XP.

You just need to go into the preferences section, where it gives you the copy options, and change it from "default" to "all"

What actual version of ghost 6.5 or 7.0. I have 7.0.
I haven't bothered getting XP to try so. I just wanted to know.

ghosting is done using Symantec Norton Ghost and will create an exact image of your hdd/partition to allow you to back it up and restore as needed.

just found out ghost 2002 works with ntfs for xp
will let yah know if it goes well
