Interesting IE 5.5 Problem

Hi all,

My mate has a good problem with his computer.

When accessing the web, his computer will access secure sites, but not regular web sites!

Anyone heard of this????

Tried just about everything to cure this, bar a windows reinstall, so any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the windows update page for 98, see if there are any security updates ro general updates (there has been a service pack released recently) for I.E 5.5..

Alternatively, you could Re-install I.E 5 and see if the problem persists, if it doesn't, then re-install 5.5.

Have reinstalled 5.5 again to no effect, will installing 5.0 have any effect?

With the number of other software that he has installed that access the web, Im not really surprised that something like this has happened!

Any further info would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked that Content Advisor (Tools>Options>Content) isn't enabled?

Yep,

and reinstalled all the network protocols etc, and uninstalled communications support, then reinstalled it.

Seems I have just about done everything bar a full reinstall.

Hope some one can come up with something.

Double check your security settings. See what it has listed for Internet. Also, double check the advanced settings under security. It's coming from somewhere in there.
