Interesting job interview today...

Starts with hiring partner (who was essentially wearing a muscle tee) saying:

"Forget this resume...tell me about your fantasy football picks."

It was suppose to be a 30 min interview but all that was spent on on fantasy football...then he asked me a few work related questions, generally uninterested in my responses.

At one point, I stop talking because he is checking emails and text messages. He looks up and says "Don't stop, say your peace. It's not you...I just hate these questions, but they make me ask them so I can't really care about your responses."

Few more questions, same reaction, etc.

Then he cuts me off and says "Look, I like you, so I'll be honest. Your qualified for the position and you seem like a cool guy. I think you will fit in with the team. But here is the thing: I can't go to sleep at night without ambien. That's how stressed I am. On the other hand, I make a shit load of money. See this? (Points to his rolex). I don't give he shit if I lost it. I would buy another one. So ask yourself what's more important: money or mental health before taking this job."

That was just part of the speech. Note there has not been an offer made before all this. Quite an interesting guy.

You missed the perfect opportunity to ask him "Do you even lift bro?"

DO NOT take this job

Stress will kill you (litrally) and yes, lawyers work LONG hours and are under A LOT of stress........and have to take their morals and throw them over the bridge.

I would thank him for being honest and say "I will take no stress, thank you very much, bye"

I worked at a lawfirm before as an IT guy and in general it was a good job, but what these people went thru.....NO AMOUNT of money would make me do that crap.

Imagine knowing how fucked up your client is and how much illegal shit they have done, yet you have to help them and CRUSH the "good guy".

I've seen lawyers in some difficult "mental" conditions......

Think of it like the meow game.... "The thing about my fantasy players is, Do they even lift?" or "When I lost my last Rolex, I was pondering if I even lifted at the time bro.".

He probably would be so focused on other shit he probably wouldn't even realize it. Throw in a few hand gestures if he is looking at you to defer his attention to what you are doing, not what youa re saying. We did that shit to our "extra special" customers when I worked at Fry's.

On the other hand, short term gains, cut your long term losses. Remember, resumes are meant to be padded, and so is your wallet.

Sounds like an awesome boss! I'd say take it if you like working a lot, he seems cool. I work crazy hours but I really enjoy my job so it's cool for the most part.

And they say Slavery has been abolished. Heck we have new kind of slaves, people that not only put in extra time but enjoy it while doing so.

It will likely either be REALLY awesome or REALLY terrible.

Personally I've found that people like him generally don't care about the details. If your job involves picking up his 'mess' then run.

I like his honesty. That's a rare commodity anymore, but there's no way in hell I'd take the job. Mental health >*

I might be wrong but wasn't he a lawyer before?

Go for the money. You can sleep when you're dead or quit if you can't hack it. Don't be a pussy.

Work here and if it gets really tough just quit. No point in putting your work before your health. Atleast if you decide to work there you can get some $$$. You could also just pace yourself with the workload given.

Sounds like a place where you basically turn over your life for 2-5 years, make a shitload of money, pay off your bills/beef up your savings, and then cashout for an easier job.

I appreciate his honesty. Much better than a typical suit interview that reads off some HR preformatted "What are your strengths, what are your weeknesses, what can you bring to the company? Blah blah blah.".

"Are you a virgin?"

He did not ask that, but he asked if I was married...I said no. He said he likes to do dinner with his wife and his associates and their wives once a month so I should start looking into a wife soon or else the dinners are going to be awkward. I had to laugh at that.
