I watched the commentary last night and I thought Michael Bay said there was a safety harness... but he was scared anyway. He almost backed out and made them use special effects to get that shot, but Bay talked him into growing a set of balls and supposedly LaBeouf didn't think it was that big a deal once they started shooting...

On a related note, Michael Bay is about as cocky as they come.

I still need to sit down and watch all the extras + commentary. We watched the movie Wednesday night (got it Tuesday but my son had a baseball game) and Thursday night but no extras yet.

I'm watching the extras now... definitely a harness, but no net. So if he fell, he would have bounced off the side of the building and it would have hurt, but he wouldn't have died.

My wife likes Shia LeBeouf in the movie and so we started going through the IMDB listings. For some reason, a couple of the Trivia pages for the cast members have their salary they made for Transformers. I'm sure it doesn't include some things but it was interesting.

Shia made $500k off of Transformers. Kind of low for a lead actor in a blockbuster but he's also a newcomer for the most part despite being a Disney kid.

Meanwhile, Tyrese (Left Cheek! Left Cheek! Left Cheek!) made <pinky finger> $8 million for Transformers! Whoa! That's a lot for a role that wasn't even a lead.

I wonder how much Jon Voight, Peter Cullen, and others made now.

shia gets work because he is cheap
dunno what the producers were smoking if they paid that much for tyrese.

as for sequels...i'm pretty sure the studios are smart enough to make actors sign contracts that limit salary increases for sequels and have them agree to do the sequels in advance.
