Did I say I didn't trust anybody? I also said I was stopped, I was just leaving Wendy's the restaurant and had just started my car.

When he came up, I opened my whole door in front of him and didn't shut off my car. If he would have reached over I could have shut the door on his arm/hand and still reversed.

If he would have tried to come on the inside of my door I would have not allowed that.

I am not a small guy.

It's was not that I didn't want to trust him, I went 15 mins out of my way to get on the freeway and double back. If there was a truck broken down there I was willing to drive back and give him a twenty then be on my way.

Pretty boring "scam" Imo but for you I'm sure it was an adrenaline pumping experience!
Do you forward all the Nigerian scams to the FBI?

Go back and read, I said "interesting scam" not that I got scammed.

I find it highly suspicious that should I have given him a ride, nothing would have happened. Being I had a passenger in the car and it was already started, he knew if I gave him a ride he'd probably be in the back seat.

I called it in even though it only cost me a bit of time because someone else may have been tricked.

I don't get it. Howq was it a scam? Might have just been a carjacking in the making.

that doesn't make any sense

for the retarded:

"interesting scam": Someone promoting something to take advantage of other's with.

"scammed": being the victim in the above.

I THINK THIS IS OUR CONFUSION: Your story is lacking in describing what the scam is or was going to be. How can you conclude it was even a scam?

No adrenaline...the guy may have been 150-160lbs.

Like I said the odd part was he wanted in the car. To me that was a hostile situation for someone ready to happen. Most people looking for some cash are either hoping you pull your wallet and they can snatch and grab or hoping you will give them a few bucks.

Most are not trying to get in your car.

to Jules, you are either a coward or have no compassion.

I actually help a lot of people regularly. I donate at least a hundred bucks a month to various causes and stay active in a lot of concerns.

Man, I can say I am very glad you did not let him in the car...that just smells too badly of robbery. Good job, I don't know if I would have had the guts to say no.

There was no truck broken down #1, the tire shop (which is in my cell phone because I deal with them) did not have a call from anyone in that area that night, and definitely none for a large 4x4 tire...#2.

Should I go for a third strike against the guy or would you have been that stupid?

Him being in the backseat gives him a positional advantage on you if he was armed.

exactly why I didn't. Even with any passenger in the car you are at a disadvantage.

If you had... WTF there are tires ads at the bottom of the screen! Anyway, as I was saying, if you were carrying a gun, you wouldn't be such a pussy. Just 'cause you recommended the tire places doesn't mean he has to go there. There's just no trust in this world anymore. Everybody's out to scam you, rob you, murder you. Boohoo.

huh? I don't need to carry a gun (yet, when I get older I will probably as I know I will not be a great match against someone a third or half my age).

I didn't recommend the tire places to the guy. He just mentioned one that was coming to bring him a tire, and I happened to know it's owner. I also knew their number was in my phone.

Since you don't get it here are the problems with his whole story:

#1 he was several miles away from the 'incident'

#2 he was a concrete guy supposedly but had $30k in tools on his truck.

#3 towing a 'rig' in 36" swamper tires, that was a work vehicle.

#4 his 'hitch' popped when his tire blew

#5 the swamper tire is $450

#6 him mentioning he had to walk to find a phone...he claimed he was a partner in a concrete business...yet didn't carry a cell phone ???

I still was giving him the benefit of the doubt, my wife believed him at first said we should turn around and just give him $20. I drove down saw the flashing lights under the bridge, then got on the highway and doubled back at the next exit....at this intersection I also had to pass the road's exit so I could make it under the bridge.

There was flashing lights from only barricades...and there was no truck and no 'rig'.

At that point I called the tire shop and their operator told me there were no calls in that area nor any calls for 4x4 tires in the whole area.

Then I called the palm beach sheriff's office.

If there was a truck broken down there and a DOT officer I would have asked him to describe the driver and then if it matched gone back, gave the guy $20 and drove him back. I'd even stay around in the rain to help him fix any damage and get back on the road.
