Apparently the guy who handles the general maintenance for the lab I work at was a former soviet officer and engineer, and was on the Storozhevoy, an antisub frigate on which a mutiny took place and it partly inspired the events of Tom Clancy's book, "The Hunt For Red October". I googled his name and saw that he co-wrote a book and put up a corresponding YouTube video.

I LOLed when I heard this because he's terrible at keeping the air conditioning/heating running at a comfortable temperature (or maybe that's just a result of Soviet efficiency at work).

At least you know he shouldn't have any trouble working in confined spaces.

All the crew were arrested and interrogated, but only Sablin and his second-in-command, Alexander Shein, a 26-year-old seaman, were tried and convicted. At his trial in July 1976, Sablin was convicted of high treason and shot on 3 August 1976, while Shein was sentenced to prison and was released after serving 8 years. The rest of the mutineers were set free but dishonorably discharged from the Soviet Navy.

for some reason that seems lenient

One of my male colleagues has a vagina. It is the only explanation I can come up that explains his constant whining, moaning and bitching about the most trivial things.

I actually look forward to the day-long sulks as it means I get some peace and quiet.

I worked with a guy who was special forces who eventually made it over to the CIA and did side work for the NSA. Of course we all knew he was insane and likely never left his mom's basement.... but it did make for an entertaining day.

We had a security guard who ran an S&M website. Short little red headed woman. That might have been the most interesting one I have worked with.

I learned yesterday that my uber-Christian hot coworker had alcohol issues until a few years back. That was pretty disappointing...I had money on "coked out hooker" in the office pool.

I thought it was the apparent mutiny on another sub that inspired Hunt for Red October?
I think it was a Yankee class sub that surfaced and wounded men were seen on deck.

Have you tried giving him a snickers bar?

From what I understand they weren't that big on actually executing people in the USSR by the time the 1970s rolled around. I mean they'd shoot you if you got way too far out of line, but they preferred to screw with peoples jobs, confine them in mental hospitals or haul them off to the Gulag. There was a guy who tried to assassinate Brezhnev and all they did was imprison him for a while.
