Interesting thing I found

I just found this Powercolor X1950XT and I was like wow a single slot solution. Seeing as I can't run dual slot, I recently purchased a 7950GT over the Christmas holiday. Now, the X1950XT is much better than this card but also costs less/the same than the one I bought. Do you think I should try and sell my 7950GT in the Sales and Trades forum or do you think it isn't worth it?

I'm not speaking about dual slot/single slot in a height manner, I'm speaking about the actual PCI bracket itself. I can't have a card that uses two brackets to stablize the card due to Dells idiotic semi-BTX case layout. I can fit the card fine, it's just that this is the only one with a single slot bracket.

OP: Better thread title please.

Single slot backplate, but dual-slot cooling solution because it blocks the adjacent expansion slot on the motherboard.

How do you change the thread title? Never done it before..
Anyways, I know that it is technically a dual slot solution, but the backplate is the only thing that messes with my configuration due to my Dell's BTX style motherboard (size doesn't matter, in other words). All I was really asking was whether it would be worth it to sell my 7950GT here and get this card with superior performance and cooling.

If you think that you can get a good deal for the 7950GT then I say go for it.

However, you may want to wait a month or so and see how the 8600GTS benches. 8600GTS should MSRP at about $250 and should be faster than an X1900XT.

Yeah; I was thinking about doing this earlier today. We will have to see what limits will be presented by a 128 bit bus...
Thanks for the opinion about doing it Matt! I was just making sure I wasn't wasting my time with the upgrade. One of the biggest clinchers for me is HDR+AA, but a 15 fps boost in FEAR, Oblvion, etc would be great too. Just wondering what you guys' opinions are on what may seem like a miniscule upgrade.

Even though I am not interested in one, I have high hopes for the 8600GTS. I think the 128bit bus of the 8600GTS will only cripple it at high resolutions and AA. I think the memory speed will make up for the lack of bus width at the middle resolutions.

An upgrade to a X1900XT I think is a bit pointless right now IMO. you'll get marginal games, but you dont wanna be kicking yourself for not waiting a bit.

Anyone who is thinking about buying a new video had BEST be looking at DX10 hardware. No reason not to be.

I would keep the x1950xt and sell the 7950gt. The value of the 7-series will drop even more when the 8-series midrange cards are released. And I dont think a 8600gts will outperform a x1950xt. It might be on par with a 7950gt, though. Anyway, DX10 is not a priority feature right now because:
1. No games take advantage of it yet, and DX9 will be supported for at least another 1-2 years.
2. You need Vista to use DX10.
3. We don't know how much additional stress DX10-exclusive eye candy will put on a video card. It might run well only on high end hardware.

Yeah, I was mulling it over while drinking coffee with my dad a half hour ago and I realized I really don't want Vista, and DX10-heavy games won't be around for quite some time. I think at the end of this month or so I may try and sell my 7950GT and get that X1950XT if anyone will buy the 7950. I was looking at the all around specs of the 8600GTS and I think the only thing it has going for it is the unified shaders....
