Does anyone have a picture of the BACK of this unit ?

I don't have a BIOSTAR mobo and would just like to use this as an external card reader. Is that possible ?

Newegg says this is for use with supported motherboards only !

Also, where is this thing listed in BIOSTAR's webpage ? I can't seem to find it anywhere ...

Someone please confirm if this unit works as a standalone USB card reader so that I can buy this Thanks in advance !

It works with any motherboard brand that has a USB port, as an external reader.
Drivers are built-in if you run XP or ME.
If you run Win 98, then you need drivers disk, and that disk is made for Biosstar motherboards,
so it will require work getting it going in Win98 systems without Biostar boards.

Saw reports of some media readers corrupting SM used in Olympus digital camera's.

Have used several readers before, and this one is the first that I have seen lose data on SM card.
Requires reformatting card in camera to correct damaged SM card.
Happens simply by inserting SM card into reader, and attempting to read or see what is on the card.
I never "move" data to or from card with PC, only "copy" from card to PC. Never format or erase card with reader.
You end up with some corrupt photos, and then if you try to use media in camera again, will get card error.

This doesn't happen all the time, and I still use the reader to transfer photo's from SM to PC. But it can be a pain.

This WILL work as an external reader with ANY mobo, as long as you are running XP or Win2K. I have XP pro and was using it externally because I was too lazy to open up my case. Now, I have it mounter internally, but I have it plugged into the same USB port. It has to plug into a USB port, not into the USB header on your mobo. Anyway, it works.

BTW, I have an MSI mobo, not a Biostar.
