I wouldn't waste a RAM disk on internet cache, since the speed gain would probably be very insignificant. Use the RAM disk foryour common games, programs, etc.

Speaking from one who obviously hasn't tried it. Run the ramdisk, and set the internet cache to 10 megs. Moving back and forth bewteen pages will be instantaneous, very significant difference.

It isn't very practical to put commonly used games on a ram disk, because they will be gone when you reboot. It works very well for cache, since it is alright to be deleted on shutdown, and gives quicker access to stored pages.

i thought those RAM disks had their own power supply so they wouldn't die when you turned the computer off. At least the one I saw did

I think in this case they're talking about a segment of ram which is set aside as a virtual disk.

Is it volatile memory?

While I love the idea of the cache being cleared out each time I boot, I'm not sure I'd like loosing all the cookies. (I like logging in to places like AT automatically)

Hmm...I was thinking of solid state. A normal RAM disk dies after you shut the power off.

I think he's talking about this. The other option's too expensive, no?

yes, that's exactly what i'm talking about. the downside is that XP allows only for a 32MB cache to be created. still works great nonetheless.

I don't know. The version I have is the W98 registered version. I also bought it from the original programmer who sold it to Cenatek a couple of years ago.

I've been very happy with the w98 version.

I downloaded TweakXP from totalidea.de or some site with a similar name, not sure and too lazy to check if it works. Any way, I use it and it really helps on web pages with lots of images. I think part of it is from ahving a smaller cache size, I kept mine at 32MB and that possibly helps more than just having it on the RAM. Actually, right now I'm using it off of my hard drive @32mb limit and I think that helps more since the hard drive doesn't have to look for it as much... I might switch back if I feel the need.
