Alright this is something a friend of mine is having with his net connection. He lives in the conneticut area and basically what happens is, from time to time his internet connection just drops. It happens mainly whenever he's downloading stuff on the internet for a while or in this one game he plays called America's Army when he loads large maps on multiplayer servers, his connection just completely drops.
Here's what he says happens to his modem when the connection drops:
it just drops, the yellow lite on my modem stops blinking, when i close anything to the net, the lite begins to blink again, the the net is still down
Yes he's on a router...I've pretty much ran all sorts of tests on his computer...He says his other computer works fine on the net and doesn't get any problems so that roots out the problem with his ISP. He's also tried getting rid of the router and doing a direct connection, but even with that his connection drops from time to time. Anyways I went on his computer ran all sorts of spyware/adware checks using microsoft spyware, adaware pro, and spybot as well ...they just showed up some small spyware which I got rid of ....also downloaded a trojan cleaner called "the cleaner" from moosoft.com and that didn't detect anything suspicious. I also have tried disabling his firewall completely, he uses the one that comes with SP2....I've tried changing his dns servers to a different one, but it still happens.
