Internet connection sharing situation

Just got broadband today. I have my computer plugged into a router via Ethernet, and the router plugged into the cable modem. The router is acting as a DHCP server. The thing is, I'm trying to share the connection with my brother's computer, which is connected to my computer via a Linksys Phoneline networking card. Both networks are working fine, it's just that he isn't able to get on the Internet at all.

I have enabled Internet Connection Sharing on the Ethernet card that's connected to the router with the Phoneline network selected as the subnetwork to share the Internet connection with. This of course makes my computer a DHCP server for the phone line network, and I have made his computer autoconfigure and such to get an IP address automatically. The thing is, he isn't able to do anything except ping my computer and access my Windows shares. Accessing web sites doesn't work, as he can't resolve hostnames.

Both computers are running Windows 2000. Any advice would be appreciated.

i would not have two devices acting as DHCP's in your network as it create problems. easy fix is wire a connection to his computer's nic, disable/uninstall ICS, run a network wizard or set each connection's tcpip to automatically get the ip and have the same subnet and gateway. sound ok? if you don't have one a nic is around 10-20 bucks and worth sharing all that broadband!

If you are trying to Double NAT it will not work.

If you are using WinXP try the bridging.

However the best would be to get Harfware Phone Line to Ethernet Bridge and plug him directly to the Router.

if yours and his computer are the only 2 in the network, you can get it to work by removing the router, put the cable modem directly into your machine, and then re-run the connection sharing wizard....you should get it to work that way

Well, see, the thing is, there isn't really two DHCP devices on the network per se. The router is the DHCP device on the ethernet network, and my computer is the DHCP device on the phoneline network.

Anyways, thanks for your suggestions, but I got it to work just by disabling my firewall software. I should have thought of doing that sooner.
