I just installed it a few hours ago. I like a few things about it such as colored tabs, "Accelerators," and "Live Search" (search with previews). The address bar also behaves in similar fashion to the one in FF3. I won't give up Firefox, but I'll continue to try out IE8 for awhile.

What I'm curious about IE8 is how well they apply web standards compared to other browsers. IE is the source of all my problems at work so I'll be happy if they can get it right with version 8 and have something to look forward to.

OK I have a question....the toolbars...when I upgraded it shrunk everything to one bar. How can I drop favorites to a second bad before my tabs bar? I unlocked by toolbars and have tried everything I can think of.

Edit: Nevermind, it is somewhat counter intuitive, I had to drag it up which actually moved it down.

Can you have both IE7 and IE8 beta installed together in Vista?

Can't speak for Vista but in XP, it replaced IE7. FWIW, it does give you an option to uninstall it so you don't have to do a System Restore to go back to IE7 (if you have to). The compatibility mode should help if you have issues with rendering certain pages. These forums do render incorrectly but the compatibility mode fixes it.

Ya I just keep compatability mode one...I don't get the reason behind any changes they made if you have to use compatability mode most of the time.

I think IE8 is supposed to be hyper compliant with web standards, and web pages aren't up to snuff yet. They give you compatibility mode for now, and full IE8 mode for later.

It's because all these years IE was never compliant with web standards, and everyone built websites so they would show up correctly in IE. Now that it's being built to be compliant, there needs to be a compatibility mode because all the websites were made to render properly in the old non-compliant versions.

It passes acid 2 but poops out on acid 3, which is the first time (I think) it's passed either one.
