I'm using a Motorola Sufboard cable modem with a minsys rounter. However, for the past month, my cable connection has been really random.
It would randomly disconnect, and go through the entire "blinking light" sequence for a minute or 2 and then connect. This seems to be completley random becuase it happens without anything connected to it.

Can anyone help?

I'd suggest calling the cable co. It could be a bad signal, or it could be the modem is failing (not sure if yours is provided by your cable company or not, but if so, they'll replace it).

Yeah, sounds like bad modem or bad signal to me. Have you checked all your cables to make sure you don't havea bad connection at a splitter or damage to the cable outside/in the basement or something?

Yeah. I used to have this problem, but I switched cable lines and it worked fine. Now I'm having this problem again.

Still a good idea to have them send a tech out. Is there a newer firmware for it than what you are using? Is it possible it is overheating?

Not sure how your cable company is, but my local one will swap out cable modems no questions asked. I can just walk up to the customer service desk with a modem and say I need to swap it out for another one and I'm in and out in 5 minutes (with appropraite approval from the person who owns the account of course, they want a written letter if it's not you).

That'd be the super easy way to find out if it's your modem.

You could use a friend's modem too, if they have the same provider. If another modem does the same thing, you have a bad cable somewhere.

To check to see if the bad cable is your problem or your cable companies, take the modem to where the cable first comes into your house and plug it in there directly with no splitters or anything and see if the problem persists. If it does, it's your cable providers problem. If it doesn't the problem is somwhere in your house.
