I have a friend who's in love with a black girl. He's as white as Casper and she's as black as Midnight. I can think of a million reason why this won't work, none of which has anything to do with racism. Apart from the obvious social issues, I can see a cultural and world view gap big enough to drive a truck through. But when you're in lust..... err, love, you tend to be blind to real world issues.

The way I see it, making a relationship work is tough even when eveything's right. Throw in something too far out of line and you have a recipe for disaster.

Has anyone here ever been in a successful (or even semi successful) interracial relationship?

My best friend's 100% glo-in-the-dark Irish descended and his wife is half black half Puerto Rican, and they seem to do just fine.

I'd think geography (or the attitudes attached to certain locales) could play a major role - if you're in a region that's not tolerant, I mean.

If you can think of a million reasons why the relationship won't work and none of them have to do with racism, then couldn't you have posted this thread without mentioning the race issue at all and discuss those other issues since race has nothing to do with it?

I am asian or maybe a banana (white on the inside, yellow on the outside), have dated both white and asian girls and am currently going through a relationship with a caucasian girl.
I noticed that the asians boasting asian pride tend to stick together within the same ethnic group, but usually white guys are very popular among asian girls.
Ironically, I tend to hold high prejudices in regards of interracial relationships, but who are you or we to judge upon others?

To put it bluntly on a personal level: yes white meat, kimchi, dimsum, suhi, mumroc, but a big negatory to burritos and fried chicken

Nowadays, I believe it's has less to do what the color of your skin. But how you were brought up, how and who you interact with.

you sound like you are unaccepting of such a relationship, and would be part of their problem.

It absolutely can work. I have two good friends, one black and one white. He's an ex-biker who still looks like he'd kick your butt just for fun and she's a classy looking great dresser. Without a doubt its two people you would never expect, of any colors, to get together. But they have a great marriage.
Of course, they live here in Vermont where people have a live and live attitude.

That's the problem. This is in the deep south so the White/black part does matter as far as their friends, family etc. go.

As far as those who may think I'm racist, you're stupid.

I'm a realist and just want the best for my friend. I'd hate to see him get hurt in any way. They have been involved in several altercations in public involving other blacks who oppose them being together but have not had any problems with whites. He told me that his family was noticeably cold about the relationship but he felt that in time, they would come around. Knowing his family like I do, I have my doubts about a few of them.

We all have to live in our world. No matter how right or wrong we may be, we all suffer consequences for what we do and don't do. Whether they be good or bad has nothing to do with right and wrong.

Been together with my wife for 10 years. Married for almost 7. Have two kids.

I'm casper. She's midnight. We live in Atlanta.
