So here's the story. I made a lot of mistakes in my education. Mainly getting into a career field that has a severe job shortage. Studied journalism/broadcast, graduated in 2010. Couldn't find any work. Too many applicants and I just didn't have enough experience. Haven't even landed many interviews. Until this week...
As some of you know, I currently work as a driver for a tight arsed car rental company. They don't give a shit about their employees. Poor working conditions, low pay, and very long days. Even my boss is talking about quitting. I'm miserable there. I've been working hard volunteering at a local cable station trying to get my experience up. Looks like it could pay off soon.
So tomorrow I have an interview for a job I really want. It's for a major cable television station. I would monitor feeds, scanners, traffic cameras and update information for the hosts to use on air, as well as build information databases and liaise with local police/transit/and government. Basically, I'd be a traffic editor. I did this as an intern for a major radio station, so no sweat. It's a full time job and the company is one of Canada's top 100 employers. 8 hour day with potential overtime, possibly weekend work. Anything that gets me out of working 11hr days day in day out is perfect. Plus it's only a 30 minute drive away, in the suburbs, so no commuting into Toronto. They've also hired a lot of alumni from my college, which is literally 10 minutes away.
This would be a huge leap for me career wise. I'm really excited. The thing is, I'm not a people person and it's been a long time since I've done a serious interview. I'm pretty nervous about it. Do you guys have any tips to help me out?
