As to the original topic... I know exactly how you feel. When you love your mom so much, you just want to give in (especially when it is a hard time for her). It's the dreaded "I'm so disappointed" which hurts more than anything that she could shout angrily in your face. But hey, you are your own woman, and I'm betting you already know what you want to do and just posted looking for some validation, which we all need now and again.

Anyway, just go with your gut, girl!

Sounds like you did the right thing for you. Maybe to make up for the disappointment, plan a return trip after all the inconvenient timing is done? Mention it to Mom and maybe she'll help finance it
