Kaido,

That was the reason I am making a hackintosh!

I have a full (traditional) home theater, but with Plex and a Hackintosh...

Verdict so far: Pretty sweet!

1. I wish hulu worked in Canada (hotspot shield takes care of it, but then my torrents go to crap)
2. I'd love a CBC feed
3. Hockey would rock

This is what I originally intended to do with my Mini but I really need hulu + Netflix + TV.com (CBS shows). I'll have to keep using my 360 with PlayOn until that happens with Plex.

Yeah man! All that is really left for me personally is Netflix & Emulator support. Also, Snow Leopard adds TV Resolution support in Display properties (480, 720, 1080), so we'll finally get proper TV output! I'm gonna go bonkers if the Nvidia ION is really Hackintoshable and if Snow Leopard is hackable

Any ideas how long it will take them to build a Hack version of 10.6?

No clue Netkas already has it running, so unless they throw in some extra security stuff at the last minute, it should be in pretty short order. Also unknown is whether or not the ION can be hackintoshed. If both are successful, then we're going to see a whole new generation of awesome, tiny media centers

So since it handles silverlight, netflix support should be coming soon eh? Don't seem to see anything on their forums.

Yeah, I dunno. On one hand, I can see Netflix not wanting to integrate it, since they sell the Roku box and have a partnership with Tivo and other companies, but on the other hand, you can already play Netflix streaming movies in your browser with Silverlight, so what's the real difference?

I also really, really, really want emulator support. I can't wait to fire up some old games with the super-comfortable Xbox 360 controller! You can already do it with various drivers using the Windows USB adapter for the wireless controllers, but you have to launch the app separate - the menus and whatnot aren't integrated yet. MAME, Atari, NES, SNES, Sega...oh boy!

This new version of Plex is amazing! I love it.

I like Boxee, but I just prefer the interface of Plex. The one thing I wish they would both do better though is scrape my video files more consistently. If I want them both to scrape them consistently then I have to manually initiate it, which sucks. Oh well..

Yeah, I ended up doing it manually. I setup a file server with my movies and thumbnails, that way all the media centers in the house pick them up without ever having to scrape. It's only an extra 10 seconds of effort to go on Google Images to find a suitable artwork image when copying a movie or video clip to the file server.

I read on their forums that they are working on Netflix. Boxee has that feature and I guess they are competitive. If I could somehow integrate my Directv box too that would be amazing. I don't know if that is possible. My projector has every input imaginable, but we'll see what is available when Snow Leopard is out.

Im torn. If the Ion is hackable, maybe I'll have to repurpose my hackintosh.

I found a Tivo script for Plex, but the Tivo has to process the output while streaming, so it sometimes is even skippy on a hardwired connection from what I've read. I'd just stick with a universal remote in your case - TV for the DirectTV box and all other media for the Plexbox.

Yea.. actually Plex does a great job of grabbing the info when you initiate it yourself, but you have to do that. Reason why I still use Plex is because I don't care to go out on the Web and find all the info, plus Plex hooks right into thetvdb.com which gives me info on all the TV episodes, and plays theme songs, etc...

For some reason Plex won't play any Hulu videos for me, it just seems to never start after I select them.

It did that for me for the first one or two, but it has worked since.

Well, I take back a little of what I said. Looks like the newer versions of Plex are doing a much better job of updating when I start it up. We'll see if maybe I just had a bad setting in a previous version. Not sure..

Is it actually a server? I see a lot about media player capabilities, I don't see anything about media server capabilities.
