Introduction to Linux ?

I really want to get to know Linux and everything it has to offer. Ubuntu really got me going from the start, and I would like to know if anyone has any good internet sites that could explain the world of Linux to me. If I use Linux, does that mean that i should be able to develop programs, and make code ? If I do, can anyone point me in the direction on how to ?

That's a loaded question because there's virtually an infinite amount of things within the world of Linux. Your best bet is to pick something that you want to accomplish and learn all you need to do that one task. Then once you're done with it move on to the next task.

Do you write programs for Windows? Why would you think that Linux would require that then? Most people who use Linux eventually get somewhat acquainted with shell scripting because it makes their lives easier, but it's not a hard requirement.

As far as programming goes.. The majority of the OS is coded in the C language.

Other popular coding languages are things like C++, python, java, ruby, and especially perl. Each are used in their own nitch. There are a lot of books on the subject of Linux programming and you can do any sort of thing you feel like doing. Low-level libraries, hardware drivers, file systems, database programming, websites, web servers, games, web browsers, office stuff, etc etc. Whatever floats your boat. The vast majority of it is open source and you can start were ever you feel like.
