Hi everybody.....
I have WinXP Pro with SP2 and Norton Firewall 2005.
Recently I started getting message from Firewall:
"Remote Computer tries to connect to Win32 Generic Host Service on my PC"
Mostly there two or three IP addresses from where it comes from.
Problem is that if I block my service I no longfer have access to Internet. And I don't want to permit them to access either.
So I have to chose "Block once" all the time.
My question is: Is there a way to block specific IP from connecting to my computer?
Let's say if IP is 70.24.22.43 can I block only them?

Thanks

If you have SP2 firewall turned on, then nobody should be able to connect to your PC. What your asking is to stop program from your PC connecting out to a certain IP address. I don't use Norton Firewall but I would guess that it should offer this ability for you. I use Sygate firewall and I can create a rule to do this. BTW, Sygate firewall is free and pretty good.

If this request is just an Intrusion, then blocking it should not terminate your connection.

If it terminates the connection it might come from your system requesting something from the Internet.

It might be that it some kind of authentication used by Symantec or Microsoft.

Look at your firewall log and see if you can find out what initializes it in your system.

What kind of internet connection are you using? If it is high speed I am guessing that you are not running a router? If not then get yourself one and that will fix your issues by masking your computer from being directly in the internet.

Thank you all.
Yes, I have cable. I checked ARIN.NET and request are coming from SBC Internet and from somewhere in Holland.
Actually Norton has an ability to block certain IP's from accessing my computer. So I just put range of IP's and all attempts are gone.

Thanks again.
