fyi: you are retarded

agreed. he probably got jammed by some shady investor like my parents. except for them it was one of the largest investor firm corporations in the world (i wont specify which). there was a lot of risky business going on back in the day. the guy got not only my parents, but a whole bunch of other people as well. they recently filed a large lawsuit (multiple investors) against the corporation, but the agent who they were after was actually fired a long while ago and had lawsuits against him even before this one.

yes, the stock market is risky, we lost $2 million+ on it back in 2000. i feel ya robcur.

it's not just this post, look at everything he writes. He is truely a moron

are you serious?

I take it you dont have much knowledge about the market, stocks, nor investing. The price of this stock 6 months ago was $14, it reached about $17.50 for a very short time and has been in a downtrend ever since. AMD has been going up lately from ~$11 to $12 in the last few days.

well ... AMD stock has a big history of ups and downs, if you have good reason to believe that it is undervalued, then you may be able to make a quick 50% to 100% in a year, however, you could just as easily lose that much.

I don't Own any AMD stock currently, as my portfolio only contains WAG ... though one of these Days I'll diversify ... (I know, don't put all the eggs in one basket, I am only 24 so if something bad happens, I will still have some time to make up for it)

I think it would be a pretty good idea if that is what you want to do. Many companies allow you to purchase stock directly from them through a DIPS program. Not sure if AMD has that or not, but something worth looking in. You can buy a grand worth of stocks then keep invseting the dividends and let it ride.

You got to start from somewhere so $1k in AMD sounds as good as any.

In fact I am thinking about cashing out some mutual funds and purchase some stocks.

Just remember, invest only what you can afford to lose.

Buy VFINX (then buy some more)

Only invest in individual companies if you are willing to follow news and their financials on a DAILY basis. I've lost a lot of faith in this strategy too, though, after Enron and Worldcom...

Invest is what you and your neighbors use on a daily basis and/or what you know. It's pointless trying to invest in a IC company if you don't understand the product; how it's made, how it's used, and subsequently where it's going.

If AMD gains you win, if not, it's only $1000. Certainly you have a better chance to gain than buying a brand new 22" LCD monitor or some expensive toys, which has zero chance of return. It's a good learning experience IMO.

Isn't there a minimum number of share you can purchase?

If the minimum is 100 shares X11.97 = it would be more than $1200 with handling fee.

I would do some research and purchase penies stock if I have 1K to blow.

100 shares is a normal lot size, but you can buy less. You will often just wind up paying a higher percentage of commission.

you should wait until about after the election before going into any stocks. Dept of HoMeland security says al qaeda is almost certain to strike between now and then so your $1k could be turned to $500.

Lehman just warned all its investors to avoid stocks fr the next few weeks citing:
1) RNC
2) oil still dangerously close to $50

AMD should take the lead with its opteron, but intel can still crush AMD if it wanted to. intel currently has accumulated the largest inventory levels in 10 years (this almost always signals the beginning of a tech slump)

not to mention nvidia missed its numbers by 75% plunging its stock 35% in a single day

maybe so, but all of these things dor not mean the stock will rise.

RobCur,

I'm really sorry that your family got burned by the market. You seem to be implying that your broker pulled something shady, if that is so, it might be worthwhile to contact a lawyer. If instead you were burned by Enron et al, the I hope that you can take comfort that those suckers are gonna hang.

Otherwise, I think that your opinions are a little reactionary. The fact that some people manipulate their knowledge of the stock market in order to rip off those that don't have it does not mean that the market itself is bad

If you lend money to a bank, you are paid for that service in the form of interest. In the stock market, you are paid more than just the interest rate because you assume more risk. You are being paid extra for the fact that you may lose. It's like playing the tables at Vegas, but the difference being you have a greater chance to win money than to lose it. Thing is, just like some people can win money at the tables in Vegas, some people lose money on the markets.

Educating yourself is the best way to prevent both losing money and getting ripped off. As in all things in life.

you haen't lost enough to realize its a scam, keep playing the game, one day you be a millionaire, no make that a billionaire. /sarcasm.
If you are not a stock broker, your chance of winning... .0000000000001 percentage.
You're too money crazed, too desperate to make easy buck = lose all in then end. I'm dead serious, very few of them investor manage to make a little profit and think damn this is good! and goes around spamming the board tricking everyone to invest into their scam, so the stock will rise then quickly sell for $$$. What you have is people getting ripped off everyday, if you call this business. I call this stealing from right under our noses and ain't no one gonna can do a damn thing about it unless no one invest in this bs. whatcha call this type of spam? speculation of making 200 percent and up to 1000 percent returns(pure profit LMAO)? these evil brokers will fall to pieces like a ton of brick on itself if no one invest in their crap. so you admit that this is gambling? and is infact illegal but because it's good for business, it's legal?
READ MY LIPS ALL: IT'S A BIG SCAM!!! DON'T BE A SUCKER, BE SMART AND KEEP YOU SAVINGS FROM THESE HUNGRY THIEVES... THE END.
