Tommorrow should be interesting.

I bought MRK pre-Vioxx at $47 I think. Somewhere around there.

If the share price drops to $25 from the current $28, I might double my position. I'm also pondering the sale of my stock. What to do. I know I should jsut sell, but I am emotionally attached

Argghhhh.

Anyone else out there own MRK stock?

just hold out; eventually it will go up

I'm feeling the pains from Pfizer; but I have faith that pfizer will come around. Not losing nearly as much as you though. Not worried about it either. Just collect your dividends and be happy. Don't invest anything you can not afford to lose.

should've sold it a long time ago. they're in a very bad position. the stock will drop even more, so hold off on buying for a bit until they come to their senses and request "class action status" instead of doing it on a case by case of 500+ mil each.

I boughtt UTStarcom at 11.60 (now 8.00) , and ATI at 17 (11.50) and have seen them both tank.. I am holding them for now. I would do the same if I had Merck.

As long as having the money tied up in the stock isnt hurting you (I.E. you're not paying interest on it or you dont need the money because your car just broke down) then hold onto it.

Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Sell and cut your losses. There are plenty of good stocks out there.

Have a nice day.

A lot, if not most of the litigation risk is built into the stock price now. The court ruling came out Friday before the close, and the price only went down 2.5 points. There has been a lot of news coverage this weekend, so it might go down some more Monday. I think it is a good long-term hold, but don't expect to go back into the 40's in the short-run.

EDIT: I wouldn't buy any more, though

I also own PFE. That's not much of a worry.

My worry is if MRK has to pay more than the $18 billion estiamtes. That's truely not much to a company the size of Merkc, but they reecently froze the dividend after 30+ years of annual dividend hikes (increases). If that dividend ever gets cut, I am going to be torqued.

I'm sure they've analyzed the costs of both roads. Alot of cases they will win, others loose. I'm sure they did estimates up front.

I don't think the stock will dip to under $25 unless the dividend is cut. Right now, holders get a VERY nice dividend.

Well, doubling my psoition would drop my cost basis to $35. That would be the purpose. But I also don't think there is a rush to get into or add more MRK stock at this time as the future drug pipeline isn't so hot.

You rode it down from $47 and want to sell now? How large is your position?

18bil figure was mentioned months ago.

Weak will sell and that will be good for the stock.

My cost basis is $27.5 and it makes up more than quarter of my portfolio. I bought last year after the big drop. I've zero plan to sell. Only to add. Merck isn't going anywhere and neither am I. Nor is the fat dividend.

Changing your "cost basis" will have no effect on the amount you will lose (or make) on your original purchase.

You shouldn't even consider the price that you originally paid for your stock (unless you are worried about tax consequences). Look at Merck now, relative to all the other stocks or funds or anything else that you could invest in, and then decide what to do. Your past purchases should have nothing to do with this.
