Umm, I'm kinda new here, but isn't there supposed to be a *deal* somewhere in the post? The Iomega regularly costs more than both the Plextor and the TDK of the same drive. The Plextor gives you name recognition and bragging rights. The TDK gives you a nice software bundle, looks ,and firmware upgrades (32X DAE is incredible). The Iomega gives you , umm ... the recognition of owning a little piece of a company responsible for preventing the implementation of the evolution of the floppy disk (LS120) and possibly killing the removable disk drive all together by stagnating til CDR caught on. Oh , yeah... and you get to pay 30% more to have the same hardware that everyone else is putting on the market. Cool.

UPDATE! - March 1, 2001.

It appears that Plextor Japan released a new 1.08 firmware, AND A WHOLE NEW WAY TO UPDATE FIRMWARE! The new firmware update method does not require EXE program hacking!

http://www.RoundSparrow.com/Comp/Iomega1/UP/ -- Procedure to do the new update and links to the 1.08 firmware.

For those with the off-brand "Plextor" drive (sold under Iomega, TDK, Creative) this makes things much simpler.

So far, I haven't found any release notes to indicate what is new in 1.08 firmware... use at own risk, this is brand new.

Hey, I dl the .exe and tried to open it with Winzip (as roundsparrow instructs) and winzip won't open the file so I can modify the .ini file to work with my Iomega drive.

Has anyone else gotten this to work?

I'd say ES300 is a Camry with added lexury elements as it has the same engine, just different look chassis.

I did try opening the .exe plextor file with winzip and winzip fails to open...claiming it is not a valid archive file. The file is good as it will run...

Any ideas?
