Unfortunately, Staples doesn't ship to Hawaii. So, I have a deal for someone. I'll trade my HP 9200i SCSI 8x4x32 for one of these drives. Let me know if anyone is interested.
If you live more than 30 miles away from a Staples store and the CSR tries to add overnight shipping and handling charges to your PM, try this: Tell the CSR that you live more than 30 miles away from a Staples store so Staples ships things to you via UPS Ground. Insist that Staples either ship your order via UPS Overnight Air or not add the extra charge onto your PM. They'll never agree to ship your order overnight, so they usually agree to not add the shipping charge in. It's always worked for me
So bestbuy.com has it for a straight up 149?
Im debating if its worth it. I dont feel like pricematching and going through that crap for a 10 dollar savings.
I used to work for iomega. So I know how they can go bad, but they are just relabeled drives.
There is also a plextor 8/4/32 for 120 w/ free shipping.
Which one should i go for?
my dad ordered one for me this morning...yes yes...i'm a minor...it was all good...if they want to give u the crap with all the extra shipping fee...say that u saw it on their site that it says that they had free shipping as long as u paid for something $50. if if doesn's work... call again. Good luck...hope it works
I noticed when ever some one is calculating the buffer to write speed they are assuming that there is no IO at all for that device. It is not true, because unless your computer freezes (happens with windows a lot) while you are running 10 other programs you will get zero data fills for the buffer pipe.
Woooo-Hooooo...I hate to brag...(well maybe hate is a little strong ). I just got back from my local staples. I LOVE my local staples. I get the secretary at work to use them exclusively on office products because they are so good to me. They do have their limits, but I walked in and got:
2 45 maxtor giggers ($179.95 ea.)
2 zip drives(FREE)
2 zip CDRW drives ($149.99 ea.)

Some of you guys want to rag on staples, and I will agree with the ".com" version (they wanted to pull that + $50 crap), but the local guys here really have been good to me and for that reason, they have a customer to sell office supplies to. I can get the company to pay full price for all that stuff.
So that means what exactly, and how does that hurt a drive that burns at 12x for $110 + tax. The extraction will be done with your cd rom drive usually.
the ability to write DAO + RAW is important for backing up protected cd's...clonecd is a cd replicating program. This does not in anyway imply this is not an excellent drive..just depends on "needs"...someone asked in earlier post about clonecd and I was following up.
SAO + RAW will allow to backup certain protections but not all...DAO + RAW will allow better backup abilities...also I do not think the drive reads subchannel data/audio which is important for reading a protection accurately to create an image that can be burned
Gone.. just called... didn't know Best Buy's site was back up again, no more at Staples. Since some people paid out $141.00 for it, I think I'll just take the $150.00 + free shipping at best buy.com
They slapped me with the $50 shipping charge also. I told the CSR that it would be cheaper just to price match at the B&M, so that's what I had to do. $162.36 plus a free wingman ain't bad I guess.
This drive is smokin'!! I burned a 623 MB data cd in 6 minutes flat - all while converting mp3 to .wav format with musicmatch and listening to other mp3 with Windows Media Player! No errors and the buffer never fell below 89%!! All I need now is a CD-ROM capable of 12x audio extraction and I'll be set. The one I have now is only capable of 4x. Any suggestions?
