I just got the drive from a fellow friend from these forums yesterday. I upgraded the firmware to 3.27, had the latest Clonecd 2.8.3.1 installed and CLONECD tells me:

IOMEGAZIPCDINT 1536 is not compatible with CloneCD. I tried turning on and off DMA. still it does not work and still gives me the same warning. What could I be doing wrong? Also I forgot to mention that I also installed the Adaptec ASPI layer thing too. still does not work.

Please let me know, any help or suggestions are welcome.

It's called SEARCH. Use it, love it. Your problem lies in the fact that you updated the firmware with the Iomega one instead of the one that supports clonecd.

I have looked at ***ALL*** the iomega burner threads that concerns the one from bestbuy and staples. CLONE CD will not work for my drive. don't know why.

You really should try to read them in addition to looking at them. Here is a quote from one of the threads linked from the one I linked.

"I got this CDRW..... it didnt support DAO-Raw or SubChannel.... well it does now! Its nothing but a Sanyo BP900 drive. Go to www.firmware.com.bi and get the Sanyo BP900 3.27 firmware.... it adds subchannel reading, DAO-Raw, and support for 90 minute CDRs!!!!"

So if you were intelligent and had bothered to read the thread you would know that to get it working with CloneCD you have to download the most recent SANYO firmware and flash your drive with it. Duh, I didn't even do the deal and I know how to read.

Well (not trying to pick a fight) ,
If you read MY FIRST POST I did mention that I have already upgraded to the 3.27 firmware provided by the SANYO website. The problem that I have now is that CLONECD does not recognize my UPGRADED FIRWARE IOMEGA drive as a compatible cdwriter. Here is what I did:

1) Install the drive on secondary master
2) Boot up windows. Drive is recognized.
3) Downloaded winflash and firware upgrade 3.27
4) Flashed the drive.
5) Hard reboot. Turn of and then turn on.
6) Installed APSI layer provided by DULANIC
7) Warm reboot
8) Installed cloncd VERSION 2.8.3.1
9) warm Rebooted.
10) Checked the device manager and the drive came up as IOMEGAZIPCDINT 1536
11) Firmware ok?
12) Ran Clonecd 2.3.8.1 and the clonecd says :
IOMEGAZIPCDINT 1536 is not compatible with CloneCD

Any help would be wonderful. I did do my homework on studying this. and believe me I READ alot. I also tried burning a normal cd and the drive still works fine. quite fast. However I just want to use clonecd.

any help are welcome.

CloneCD has some software issues.... like it not reading subchannel when I set the speed to MAX yet it works fine when I set it to 32X (Which is same as MAX).

Does it say your drive isnt compatiable right when you start it?

BTW Windows will still say the drive is the Iomega thats fine.

Wow, rahvin sure is a jerk. Why don't you just not answer at all, if you're going to be so mean.

Good luck, efe.

exactly dulanic,
clonecd does not recognize the drive as a compatible drive to start with so I can't even burn anything using clonecd. I checked the log and tried rescaning the ide/scsi bus but still no luck. the clonecd won't even let me burn.

HELP!!!. (well not that desperate) but I just want to know what is wrong.

Maybe it's a CloneCD problem, have you tried it with an older version of CloneCD. I still have 2871 but a different burner. If you want the old version let me know.

<<10) Checked the device manager and the drive came up as IOMEGAZIPCDINT 1536>>

Ah good info finally! This tells me the flash didn't take, if the flash actually had worked it would be reporting the drive as a Sanyo BP900, not as an IOMEGA. I'm not familiar with the hardware or the flashing software you used but you should investigate the flashing technique you used because it didn't update the firmware.

Ah check that Dulanic says the firmware still reports as a ZIPCD after it's been updated? Can anyone else confirm this?

<<Wow, rahvin sure is a jerk. Why don't you just not answer at all, if you're going to be so mean.>>

If hadn't responded I doubt anyone would have, it was rapidly moving off the screen when I hit it. There was not enough information to determine the error, I mistakingly believed the poster hadn't bothered to do any research because they didn't provide real troubleshooting info. Just goes to show if you don't give a detailed explaination of the trouble you won't find the problem and might not get responses.

rahvin,
Upgrading firmware does not necesarily mean chaning manufacurer names. The firmware upgrade did take place CORRECTLY since the first one I started with was something like 3.0e or something like that and after the flash the drive firmware in the DEVICE MANAGER stated that it was 3.27 that must have mean the firmware did acutally get written to the drive. If the firmware was not, could you explain me how come my drive is still working and burning fine at all speeds? I did test this too.

Actually, it does. How do you think OSes or softwares to know what to lable those drives by their "rebaded" name brands instead of its true manufacturers?

I'm not familiar w/that particular model but you might want to delete any softwares or drivers that came bundled w/that CD-RW + the firewire card (if any) and do a fresh install. (drivers/softwares for the burner/firewire only, not the OS) From my past experience, IOMEGA are notorious w/bundling their softwares/drivers in one "be all/do all, idiot install" that installs everything at once. (just like HP) If you have to, just install drivers for the firewire card (if needed) by itself and see if the OS will re-recognize that CD-RW as Sanyo afterward. I know some of the flashers from Sanyo are great because you can flash it directly from Windows but some of them are "intelligent", where they'll refuse to flash upgrade non Sanyo firmwares. Meaning the previous firmware needs to be Sanyo for the flasher to accept the newer Sanyo's firmware. You said, it did indeed, successfully take the flash upgrade but might want to do a double check or try reflashing again.

Go here for Firmware Ultilities and see what you got. Might want to look up any known problems w/that drive or have anything related to firmware upgrade problems in the forum there as well. Worst come to worst, email Ollie (creator of CloneCD and ask if there are any know problems w/that drive.
