compusa link fixed

firmware update and instructions Keep in mind this is a Sanyo CDR-BP900P drive with iomega's name on it. also, so everyone knows, the firmware is supposed to be for scsi versions of the drive but everyone who has flashed the ide using this update has been happy, including myself. i did find the flash right from one of sanyo's many websites but i dont know which one. i had already flashed mine with sannet.ne.jp. i compared the 2 (one from sannet.ne.jp and the one straight from sanyo) and they are identical.

edit:
you could flash back if you could find the older bios. you wont' want to flash back. i know you are probably worried about messing up your drive... i assure you the flash worked fine for me and many others. the drive still reads as iomega zipcdint 1536 it just has firmware revision 3.27 now.

Are you saying that flashing the drive with the Sanyo bios will keep the drive recognize as an Iomega with the new revision firmware?

Bad Dude, yeah, it will still be recognized by your OS as a Iomega. The flash is idiot proof. Anyone bad mouthing this drive is just ignorant, it is fast and burnproof works, I tried crashing a burn with Word, Excel and 4 IE windows running, no prob at all.

You have to go to Circuit City and CompUSA. The rebate is store specific dude. You cannot just buy the drive and get the rebate from Iomega.

I am a bit new at this. What's the advantage of the firmware upgrade?

I tried to pricematch at OfficeMax. The guy at the counter says that they don't pricematch with CompUSA, only Office Depot. He asks me to read the sign, and sign says "Anywhere" and it includes even websites which offer second day shipping. He calls the manager and he looks at the ad, says he can't believe it and says he has to call them. I ask him to go ahead, and he says the store is closed (It was about 9:45pm). I tell him CompUSA closes at 10pm during the Holidays. He says: "Hey, if you want I'll call them again". I say go ahead. He calls them again from his office. And comes out saying that the guy in CompUSA says it's $250! And it's down to 149 after rebates. I ask him to read the ad, and he says: "No way, they can offer this price. They must be losing money ...". I tell him, that according to OfficeMax policy I have to show him the ad and he has to match the price. He says: "If you want I'll call him again". Go ahead. It's 10 and they're closed. Refused to sell it to me for even $149. OfficeMax sucks

Any chance of someone picking up one of these rebate forms at Compusa and mailing it to me. Just ordered one of these online and I'm not sure if they enclose a rebate form to send in.

Much obliged.

As an alternative, you can just call 1-800-compusa and they'll supposedly send you a rebate form.

The rebate at compUSA is good till the 20th. Not sure about the one at Circuit City (Is there still a rebate on this drive at circuit city?)

Hey Takhyon,
Which state are you in? I work in the Anaheim store #616 and if you can go there then I will price match it for you. However, you can call the delivery center and they will price match it for you.

From what i understand, you have to upgrade the firmware in order to make it compatible with CloneCD, DAO-RAW, etc.

RE: CloneCD compatible: This drive is a great CloneCd burner(after the firmware upgrade). I don't think it will READ subchannel data so you will need a CDROM that reads subchannel for backing up some types of protection. Burnproof is wonderful. The Sanyo drive is not the same as a Plextor, although Plextor uses many Sanyo parts.

Can this thing be pricematched with Buy.com and then use
the $30 off $150 (after adding something to put it over)
so I don't have to mess with the mail-in rebate?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I'd like to
do this with this particular item if possible.

Lucky me!

Bought it a couple of weeks ago at bestbuy for 179.

Just went and pricematched. Lucky me, the girl gave me the AFTER rebate price + 10%.

It cost me 120.31 out of pocket, and I'm still gonna go for the rebate to make it a cool $90.

Eee haw!

You should be able to get CompUSA to issue you another receipt. They shouldn't care about fraud since you only have 1 UPC to send in.

DDDay and mwmadbad, I am NOT misinformed. I OWN these drives and use them on a DAILY basis. There is NO comparison that can be made with these drives in terms of quality and noise generation. While both drives are similar in speed, and clone CD compatible after the bios flash , the plextor performs quieter (Obviously the manufacturer of the Iomega didn't concern themselves with things like noise generation). You don't have to update the bios of the Plextor when you get it (I guess they didn't want to provide you will all the features of their product). While you say these are the same drives, you will never convince me of this, nor will you convince me the Iomega is a better drive. If you like the Iomega drives better, and can put up with the noise, it's your money. I don't think Iomega would be listed here as a hot buy if you could get the plextor for the same money. Just look at the numerous posts on drives like the TDK being compared to the Plextor. The Plextor 12x/10x/32x drive is the drive of choice in my mind and many others. I beleive the best drive on the market is the Plextor and I stand by what I originally stated on the 17th.

<< This burner is LOUD. The Plextor kicks its @$$. There is no contest what so ever. The problem is the Plextor is about $50 more. Do you want the best or the cheapest? The drive works adequately and I bought 2 of them for gifts, but my Plextor is in an entirely different class. >>

This is not to say that the Iomega drive isn't worth purchasing. Obviously I think it is. I bought two of them. At this price point the Iomega's ARE a good value and worth purchasing if the purchaser doesn't have the extra $50. I just wanted to let all the members here know that the Iomega drive is LOUD. For some, this could mean the difference in purchasing it or going with the Plextor.
