THIS MESSAGE IS BEING EDITED AS WE GO, PLEASE RE-CHECK IT!

UPDATE January 3 2001: I just updated mine to the Plextor 1.07 firmware, this is a Plextor! The name can ALSO BE Changed

--- Old information on the deal, they are LONG GONE ---

They aren't taking online orders any more, I suspect every CompUSA and BestBuy in the country is sold out -- except for perhaps the snowbound ones.

Here is a copy of the $99.99 advertisement from CompUSA (Hungerstein provided the scan I believe).

Do not let CompUSA substitute other models (except for the TDK brand)... only the 12x10x32 is a Plextor. Web page showing Photo of the Iomega drive and 1.07 firmware.

======= --- =======

The rebate: There are two rebate forms from Iomega, one says good until December 31 (Adobe PDF file), the other says good after January 1 (Adobe PDF file). Other than that, it looks straight forward and up to 10 drives per household.

====== --- =======

(CC of post in other thread)
I believe I have the solution!!!!!!
i just need 1 more thing.
mrVW:
would you mind doing this:
go to the control panel, double click on the zipcd drive, and MAKE A SCREENSHOT of the ENTIRE properties dialog (the first page)
I should be able to finish it.
if not, I'll install my drive tomorrow after the pricematch and do it my self.
I am pretty confident this works.

I think most compusa will save some for tomorrow but I bet there will be lines at most compusa tomorrow.

Wedesdo, I'm on Windows 2000 so it doesn't show the same info in properties you are expecting. I put up a shot of what Nero shows.... the ID STRING that nero shows is the same my system BIOS sees when I boot. I have my drive on a Promise Ultra66 controller, which Windows 2000 thinks is a SCSI, don't get confused by that...

I added a screen shot of Nero's info on drive to my web page

Wedesdo -- can you edit down your signature on your messages, you are making the thread length grow like crazy! Especially the first message you post above, eliminate some white space please! -- Ahh, much nicer. Thank you.

Your link to Geocities doesn't produce a ZIP file for me... did you upload it yet?

The Park Meadows CompUSA in Denver had over 20 this afternoon when I picked one up. This is a great deal. Had a $100 CompUSA gift card from Christmas. Merry Christmas to me.

Although I have never tried a sale pricematch, I called CompUSA today and they said they have 14 day pricematching policy. This includes both CompUSA and prices at other stores (does not include online stores, nor does it include stores like Sam's Club.) Based on this information, I'm heading out tonight to pick up the drive.

Just in case, I wouldn't open the box. Just return it if they don't let you buy it. Keep in mind that over $250 they send you a check 3 days later according to the web page.

Wedesdo-
the interior of the drive looks the same as my plex 8-4-32 so should we really assume that it is the same ?

Tiger: as I have said, each major CD-rom manufacturer has its own benzel, or front panel, look. It is EXTREMELY unlikely for the iomega to be made by someone OTHER than plextor, as its specs and appearance are the same as the (much more expensive) plextor drive.

As I understand it from the iomega forums, Iomega currently does not offer ANY WAY to flash firmware... so if you put this on, there is no way to go back. Anyone know of a program that will SAVE the firmware first?

Wedesdo, can you make a firmware of the original to let us go back just in case something goes wrong?

I just called the local (in Tennessee) Compusa to check stock and they have like 32 showing in their system. I kinda lied (told him my brother in Seatle gets his Sunday paper on Saturday and told me about this deal at Compusa for the Sunday Monday sale).

He said sometimes the sales papers for CompUSA are done regionally and it may not be on sale tomorrow here. He said they get their sale notices on Sunday morning (really?) so he didn't no.

Does anyone no about this - are their sales regional or not?

Let me know. I have four PC's and today they all started needing new CD-RW's.
