I had no idea that this whole deal/fiasco was happening because between 12/23/00 and 1/2/01, I only came home and used the ol' PC on the 27th. CompUSA ads rarely run in the paper here and so I had no chance to find out. Oh well...

I don't get what all the noise about the 1.07 firmware is about. I got it for my TDK the day I got the drive and Nero and CloneCD are supported. In fact, TDK can still read sub-channel data while the Plex can't. Wassup wit dat chit?

I think it is time to lock this thread I could see it getting brought back every 3 days for the next 4 months. It is way too long (as is the other one) and all we are getting is comments about the deal and "how do I" questions... there are other forums (even here on Anandtech) for this .

Information without organization is just mess and confusion!

I believe the reason that the program does not work in Windows 2000 has to do with the way Windows 2000 handles ASPI calls. Since its I/O routines are completely different than the way Windows 95/98/ME handle I/O I'd suspect this to be the cause. From what I remember, this program never worked in Windows 2000, whether you were running the Iomega -> Plextor or the HP -> Plextor versions of this program, however, most people used a Win98 BootDisc and loaded ASPI drivers for their SCSI cards. This of course is not possible with an IDE drive, unless someone has developed ASPI drivers for IDE, which I don't think exist (Don't quote me on that one though).
