Minnepolis CompUSA had 30+ on the shelf/display still, at 11:00am (1) hour after opening. So i purchased a second one, while i price matched the first one i purchased on Friday.

Count me as the owner of (2) 1.07 updated Iomega 12x10x32... $138 each after tax->before rebate, which makes it $108 total each...

(There are gunna be some pissed off Plextor, and TDK owners after this crazy sale)

Amb#cog, it is a small world. I picked mine up at the Warwick, RI store at about 10:20. Glad you got in on the deal!

On a side note, I'm having problems flashing the firmware to 1.07 under Win ME. My drive is a 1.04. I think it has something to do with the wnaspi32.dll file. It seems like it is an old version and perhaps out of date. The Flash utility just hangs while trying to load. On Adaptec's site, it mentions that there are updates to ASPI available, but that it shouldn't be installed on Win ME. I'm going to try to replace the wnaspi32.dll file in my /SYSTEM directory with the one that came with Nero and see if I can flash then. Anybody have any ideas?? :disgust:

Pricematchers: Not all Best Busy have this drive. I just checkedd a Best Buy in Falls Church, VA, and they don't carry this model.

Best Buy did not give me the raincheck for $129.99; they said that they only give rainchecks for advertised items, and the drive wasn't advertised. I did, however, get the raincheck at CompUSA. I chuckled when I asked the guy if I could get a raincheck on this item. "Whoa...yeah man, that's a good deal." He told me that he unfortunately couldn't guarantee the $30 rebate...I kept the fact that there was another rebate that starts tomorrow to myself.

So as I understand it, the new 1.07 firmware will allow 32X DAE instead of 20X. *Without* the new firmware upgrade, will the drive still work with CloneCD and Nero?

has anyone tried to use CDRWin with this drive? I tried to use it and it doesn't detect the drive as a CDR, just a cd-rom I'm using 3.8b, anyone had any luck with any other versions?

For those of you having problems updating the firmware to 1.07, make sure that your ASPI layer is up to date. I was having problems flashing under WIN ME, and ran the ASPI32.EXE file found at:

Adaptec ASPI layer update

I had to "trick" the system into thinking I had a "qualifying" Adaptec product (even though Easy CD creator WAS installed, go figure) by temporarily adding the drivers for an Adaptec SCSI card (any will do). I was then able to flash and both Nero and Windows Device Manager are reporting 1.07. I then removed the 'pseudo' SCSI card from Device Manager.

DISCLAIMER: I have NOT tried to burn a CD yet, and Adaptec does NOT recommend updating ASPI under WIN ME!! Don't blame me if this messes up your system!!!

Somebody with more technical knowledge of the ASPI layer may want to explain why Adaptec would disapprove of updating ASPI under Win ME.

I hope this helps you guys out!! I'll report if I have any problems.

Well i got to the store today to get the 150 buck refund on each of my drives that i bought yesterday and the girl behind the counter said it would be easier for her to just ring it up as 2 returns and then charge me for 2 new ones. i said ok - so she gave me credit for my 2*279+tax and then rang up 2 new ones at not 129 but $99. guess she overlooked the mail-in-rebate comment. So now i have 2 @ $99 and then send in the rebates which will make it $ 69 for each drive i got.
Can't beat that one !!!!! a 69$ plextor - oh sorry Iomega - I just love it !

Does anybody have specs on this drive? The box and so-called manuals contain nothing, and I saw floating around here that it has a 1.8 meg buffer (what?)? is that true? I know its burnproof, but I was expecting atleast a 4 meg buffer...

Thanks shakaz I got it to work finally... In WinME I installed the aspi from adaptec and it locked upthe 1st time after reboot. So I restored the files and installed it again. Then rebooted and it worked no problems... Make sure you back up the files that the update over-writes and I would restore them after the fireware is updated...

FWIW, my dad's CompUSA (in Florida) refused to issue a raincheck because they said they weren't ever going to get any more of these drives in. I don't know if this is a nationwide thing, but for those of you getting rainchecks, you might not want to depend on them and order one online instead if you can. Just a thought.
