I also would like to say thanks to Lotsamula for his hardwork. I have benefitted from it twice, once last year with the Imation>Plextor 8X20 and now the Iomega>Plextor 12X10X32. Pretty good work for a 'newbie' as I think he referred to himself when he first wrote the program and posted it here. And again thanks to LiQiCe for his work, and to RaysMD and MrVW as well. This made for a great deal.

If the Iomega drive only has a 1.8Mb buffer and the Plextor has a 2Mb buffer... is it such a good idea to flash the Iomega w/ the Plextor firmware? I mean since they aren't really the exact same drive, could updating the firmware to the Plextor 1.07 firmware and the cache size difference lead to errors? Also does anyone know when we can expect to get the drives from CompUSA since now it seems a lot of them are back ordered?

Yes, the drive is supported by CloneCD.
However, CloneCD currently DOES NOT support 1:1 copying of Safe Disc 2.0 games. There are a very limited number of burners that can copy SD 2.0, and they're not necessarily state-of-the-art burners(Some of the slower Iomega/Sanyos and a few Teacs if I remember correctly). It was suggested that it is because these drives only have partial support for CD-Text, however I can't confirm that. I do know that the Plextor 12x/10x/32x does not do SD 2.0. Hopefully the CloneCD authors will develop a method to copy the games with their software so those of us who do not have the special burners can take part. It makes little difference to me though, as I don't play many PC games.

Has anybody used the renaming program in Win ME?? Does it work or does it need 98?? My drive got backordered too, order it 12/31 at 10am. Did anyone get a drive online??? Or did we all get backordered!! (This sucks!! Didn't want to drive 60 miles in a snow storm!!)

Talked to several people on IRC tonight that have heard that the plex is actually a Sanyo like you think. They've read it somewhere apparently (of course they dont have any sources). Makes sense tho.

This is amazing, changed the ID String using Win98 w/out a problem. Can now be recognized by HotBurn2.1, WinOnCD3.8, NTDCDMaker Pro 4.2.65, and now even PlexTools. Not possible when it was a Iomega. Made a CD to CD copy while doing other task and cruising the net. Now All I need are cheap 10 CD-RWs. Thanks again.....

i talked with a csr yesterday she was very nice but the 30 minute wait killed me. i ordered mine at 1am on dec 31, she said they will be sent out in the order they were recieved and then she checked her computer and said that a shipment is due any day from iomega she said at least a week probably 2 for 99 bucks i can wait especially since this is my first i dont know what iam missing yet. i hope she wasnt lying i dont think so but i still hope

Is it required that you do disconnect any other IDE CDroms, zip drives, etc.? I currently have a Samsung DVD drive. In addition, does it matter what channel the burner is on? My Iomega drive is connected to secondary-slave.

I left my Hitachi DVD hooked up and had no problems. Ran the Plextor 1.07 update and it worked fine. A little OT... I installed the software that came with the iomega, when I started to install a copy of nero 5.0 I have it said there may be problems with adaptecs software installed as well. True?

There are problems when adaptec and Nero are installed together. In my opinion it is easiest to uninstall Adaptec EZCD and use Nero5. Sometimes you have to manually remove certain EZCD files to get Nero to work. There is a dual boot utility on Ahead software's site the disables EZCDs problem files if you want to boot in 'Nero mode'.

The Plextor drive is not a rebadged Sanyo. Plextor licensed BURN-Proof technology from Sanyo, meaning that they manufacture their own BURN-Proof drives. Iomega and TDK do not have a license from Sanyo, so if they want to sell a drive with BURN-Proof they must have it manufactured by Sanyo, Plextor, Ricoh, or LiteOn.

I just installed my new burner. It sure is fast. Firmware version is 1.06. I don't think that I will mess with the firmware. What a deal!!

Is there any investigation as to why this is not working in win 2k? Otherwise i'm gonna have to rip it out and throw it in my brother's 98 system to do the upgrade, and while it could be worse, i'd rather not have to start swapping.....

On Ahead's page listing the downloads available, there is a description of a bootmenu that permits the choice of the CD burning software during bootup -- but there is no program on the left of the description where it should be, nor could I find it elsewhere. If you know where to get this piece of software I would be interested since I too would like to have both Nero5 and the Adaptec software available -- just not at the same time.
