EDIT: Based on initial testing the jailbreak is stable, but cydia and most of it's plugins are meh.

Seems that you get a Chinese Cydia alternative if the Evasi0n installer detects Chinese language on your computer when you install it.

It's not a very good response unfortunately. Making money isn't a problem, but the fact that they seem to have no idea what kind of crap they've bundled with it is very troubling.

It looks to me like they rushed the JB to beat the other JB'ers. I think everything will be fixed, and I doubt they got paid, but the JB seems meh overall. I imagine it as bf4, rushed out but not purposefully full of crap.

Apple TV devices don't run most of the services that iOS devices do. So many exploits aren't usable on Apple TV.

ATV2 has an A4 chip and a fully-exploitable bootrom, right?

A4 is vulnerable to the limera1n exploit. However that alone is not enough to fully break into an AppleTV2. The last bootrom that was completely broken was the "old bootrom" in the first 3GSes.

By "completely," you mean there's a bootrom flaw that allows an untether (one that can't be prevented by a software update).

A4 on iPhone 4, iPad 1, and iPod touch 4th gen can always be jailbroken (tethered, requiring re-jailbreak if the device is rebooted). I'm not sure if ATV2 has a different bottom.

With major iOS releases, A4 devices only need JB devs to update their software to resolve compatibility issues. I think that didn't happen with iOS 7 because JB devs didn't want to bother when their efforts were only usable on older devices. Still, that means Cydia and MobileSubstrate weren't ready in time for the new jailbreak and untether.

Despite the warnings, I was too tempted. Especially since my iPad was stuck on iOS5 for the longest time. All I can say is it works alright. I've had a couple of JB apps crash but haven't run into any major issues. Did a clean install of iOS7 through iTunes.

Cydia has been updated to support iOS7 as of today. A lot of JB apps aren't iOS7 compatible yet though. iDevices running the Apple A7 chip may have big issues though. Apparently a lot of apps will have to be recompiled to support 64-bit. I'm guessing mostly kernel level tweaks.

I actually like iOS7 more than I thought I would. Runs beautifully on my iPad 3.

FWIW, there are lots of tethered jailbreaks for ATV2. Only occasional untethered.

Mind you as of right now I cannot run anything anyway, so it is all moot. I haven't had power for days now in Toronto. My only net access is my phone, after I charge it in the car or something. Posting right now from in front of the fireplace.

Thx. Going for Xmas dim sum with friends in the morning. They've been staying in a hotel.

One if the bad parts is no media consumption. There were several titles I wanted to watch on the ATV2 (projector room) or WD TV Live Streaming Media Player (living room) but couldn't. I am missing out Netflix titles too on these devices. Was looking forward to House of Cards, plus a movie that an email from Netflix is taunting me with.

P.S. Besides iTunes support, one of the reasons I like ATV is because of the navigation. WD TV Live SMP after all this time still has a crappy OS. Stable, but non intuitive.

If Ouya got their crap together and got proper support for streaming video on that thing, it would be an Apple TV killer. It runs XBMC flawlessly I'm told. Though the idiots just lost support for DTS.

Rasberry Pi runs XBMC pretty much flawlessly and it's not Apple TV killer. The beauty of JB Apple TV is its unique Apple ecosystem support along with XBMC. AirPlay doesn't work flawlessly under any version of XBMC but does on AppleTV.
