Hi,

It seems that there are divided opinions about the latest update of iOS. I'm only agreed with the fact that nowadays Apple isn't leading the smartphone's battle anymore, they're adapting based on the critics of people, but they aren't innovating as in the past!

What did they remove?

The only thing I heard about that was taken out was the iCloud Keychain, which supposedly will be added back in when the next version of OS X ships.

Other than that, I'm not aware of them removing anything.

I upgraded my iPad 3 yesterday. A lot of the changes are nice, some are just different and will take some getting used to. I think I might need to do a fresh install though because it seems laggy as hell in some areas. For example, I was changing the wallpaper since it changed that when it upgraded and trying to select a different wallpaper made the device unresponsive for several seconds. I'm guessing that they still have a few bugs to work out so unless you're incredibly curious, I'd probably hold off until they have a patch or two out.

I had similar wallpaper lags on an iPad 4 (double the CPU & GPU power of the iPad 3). I'm guessing it's probably a software issue due to the newness of iOS 7.

I also have inconsistent performance using gestures, like 4 finger swipe up for the task switcher or to exit an app (rather than double tap home/single tap, respectively). On iOS 6, 4-finger swipe up worked every time perfectly.

Other than that, I think the new iOS 7 is a massive improvement. iOS 6 and below had gotten a bit stale and boring looking. And the new, updated native iOS 7 apps are much improved (camera, calendar, mail, etc.).

I've noticed similar issues on my iPad 3. 4-finger swipe up gets wonky sometimes, and 5-finger pinch to close is smooth until that last few animations where it's like it cuts it short and the icons blip to their stationary position. I might try setting it up as new this evening, but other than those things it's running fine so I might wait it out to see if an update resolves the issues.

It is quite a nice overhaul though. Safari gets better every iOS release and this time it played catch-up with what Chrome has been doing on iOS since forever. Unified search and url bar, iCloud bookmark sync add-on for Firefox, and the typical performance updates took Safari a big step forward.

One thing I wish this did have though: The option to have an iPhone sized lock screen keypad that could sit in either the lower left or right corner of the screen for one handed unlocking with a thumb.

Found another really strange bug that I've had issues reproducing, but I was trying to see if they had done anything with text selection to make it more precise. After selecting a word, trying to drag the selection handles would make the page scroll. It did this a few times in a row, but when I tried it later (different page I think) things seemed to work fine.

Turning off the parallax effect definitely makes things a lot less jerky though, so that's a definite must on older hardware. No idea why they even enabled that as a default on anything but their newest devices. Someone had to have tested it out on older hardware, which should be ridiculously easy for Apple given how few different models they actually have.

I left parallax on for my iPad 2 and it seems fine. Perhaps it's because of the low resolution screen. Which hardware are you running?
