Guys, do a Spotlight search by swiping down on your Home Screen.

Is anyone's background fubared ?

Post a screenshot? The background should be blurred; other settings might kill the blurring and the iPhone 4S might not be cable of the alpha blur effect.

It's blurred, but it's also pixelated. In iOS 7, it wasn't pixelated.
This is on an iPhone 5s.

AnandTech (by Brandon Chester): The iOS 8 Review

--

It's hard to express how I feel about iOS 8. On one hand, it's a massive release for developers and those new tools and APIs will eventually translate into better and more functional applications for users. From this point of view, iOS 8 could be considered even more exciting than iOS 7, but from the perspective of a user there's no real wow factor with iOS 8 right now.

--

Despite my concerns, iOS 8 makes me feel excited for the future more than anything else. Apple's steps to open up more options for customization by developers and users on iOS marks a significant departure from their previous releases. It's not Android but it isn't meant to be. It brings new features and capabilities that are implemented in a very Apple-like manner, for better or for worse. I don't think it's going to do much to sway Android fans toward iOS, but it gives a lot of reason for current iOS users to stay with Apple. This is especially true for users who can take advantage of continuity. iOS 8 feels like another step in the maturation that began with iOS 7. Most exciting of all is that it's still only the beginning.

After reading the AT review, I am currently installing this. Was going to wait for the iPhone 6, but might as well upgrade tonight.

I was using the iPad 2 again for some time this evening around 8:30 and surfing seemed slow. Much slower than I remember from a few days ago.

However, then I went to my i7 iMac, and while faster, it was still a bit slow. It may have just have been because 8:30 is peak time for internet use. I'll have to try again at 3 am or something next time.

However, it will be good to hear from other iPad 2, iPad mini, iPhone 4S, and iPad 3 users in the next little while. I'm really curious about the iPad 2/mini vs. iPad 3 since the iPad 3 is pushing 4X the pixels, but with basically the same CPU portion of the SoC, and just an upgraded GPU portion of the SoC. OTOH, the iPad 3 has twice the RAM, which should help a lot vs. the iPad 2. The iPad 2/mini and iPhone 4S are really RAM starved for 2014 OS standards.

D: Custom keyboards on ios8? I need to find a JB tweak that will do that on 7. I used a 4s on 8 today and it's too slow for me. No thanks. (I have to wait another year to upgrade though. Oh well.)

iOS 8.0 GM, installed last week.

EDIT:

The blur is back! (After a reboot.) See screengrab below.

I guess there's no spotlight on iPads? I dunno why not.
Mine's an iPhone 5s, but...

Rebooted, and now the blur looks normal.

So, that pixelated blur thing is a bug. Since that pixelated screen was in grayscale, I wonder if turning that grayscale mode on might activate the bug, but no, it's still working fine now.

There is spotlight on my iPad mini. Are you swiping down from the app icons, and not from the top edge of the screen?

After iOS8, my app updates are all screwed up on my iPhone. They are all stuck and won't update, maybe because I use multiple iTunes accounts. PITA. Gonna have to sync to the Mac over USB...

Downloaded Swype and Swiftkey... quite like them. Keyboard seems a bit sluggish/glitchy on my 4S sometimes now, and it's a bit weird how it reverts to the normal keyboard when entering passwords.

Safari-- doesn't look like you can clear history vs. cookies and cache separately anymore. I'm used to clearing just cookies and data but leaving the history (e.g. work related site testing)

Safari- the text selection is completely fcked. Seems to work fine in other apps like Notes and even Chrome. But it is fcked in safari (imprecise, sometimes selects an entire block of text inadvertently, sometimes page starts scrolling...)

Glad it works well on your A5X, even with those bazillion Retina pixels.

And yeah, dictation behaves differently now. Voice recognition works on-the-fly, while before it was done after you stopped speaking. The latter method was really annoying, because I'd say a sentence and then press done, except I'd hit the wrong done button and it'd scap everything I said. (There are two done buttons. One at the bottom, and one on the right. The one of the bottom is to stop the current dictation, and the one on the right is close the dictation screen. Bad UI.)

Now since it's transcribing on-the-fly, that is no longer an issue.

However, the voice dictation is only present with Apple's keyboard. If you install a 3rd party keyboard, there is no voice dictation until you switch back to Apple's keyboard. Fortunately that's not an issue for me, as I don't like Swype type keyboards for example.

I do want the animated GIF keyboard though.

One more for safari then I got to go back to reading:
On ipad Safari, you probably noticed the new tab preview icon on the upper right (gives you the tab previews like on iPhone). However, you don't need to tap the icon--2 finger pinch will get you there too

I don't like the Safari changes. I really don't like the frequently visited sites that now litter the screen and duplicate my favorites.

Fcking shit:

Bejeweled on iPad ios 8 doesn't work at all; just a blank black screen (tho theres still sound).

Going on a flight in the next couple days and usually I can get thru a cross country flight with just bejewled and a couple movies. Goddammit! Knew I should have waited to get back to test this

Thanks...that's not very intuitive.
