I've had 4, 5 and 6. The 4 had the best battery life by far. The 5 and 6 seem about equal, maybe slightly better on the 6. Then again, it's new and my 5 was 2 years old.

Good to know, won't be updating right away.

Thanks for the confirmation. It was driving me nuts...I was like why is a 4 year old phone with a worn down battery outlasting a new phone w/ a bigger battery? (Albeit, bigger screen) That being said, battery has done better w/ Motion Calibration under Location Services turned off the past day.

Yeah, when I first fired up the 6, it was having battery life lower than I expected. Turns out, location services was running as "always on" for like every app. Turned that off and I am much better, even with low / no signal a lot of the day.

My 5 would end up at like 20% when I left work, due to constantly searching for a signal. I haven't hit below 50% on the 6 yet.

I'm on a 5 and my cellular data on iOS8 (not on 8.0.1) is incredibly wonky. Sometimes, I'll have full LTE coverage, but no data.

I'm really tempted to go in to a Verizon store and beg them to let me early upgrade to an S5.

You can uninstall the Emoji keyboard!

Settings > General > Keyboards > Keyboards > swipe to the left delete any that you don't want.

Sweet! ...and it looks like I can undo it by simply adding it back.

I too find the correction algorithm of the new stock keyboard below par. However if you turn off that new predictive keyboard with the word options, and just use the old style meyboard without the suggested word options, the correction seems to be similar to the keyboard in iOS 7.1.2. So I guess the keyboards either use different correction algorithms, or else the new keyboard with the suggested word options is waiting for more input from word selection by the user to learn, leading to problems when you first use it.

I find that the biggest difference is when a space is introduced. The old corrective algorithm seemed to understand that I didn't mean to hit the spacebar at all (for example, I might have been going for 'n') or that I hit it at the wrong time (e.g. "tim e"). The new predictions seem to want to keep your spacing intact and turn the existing space-delimited items into whatever closest word it can find.

I did turn off predictions. So, we'll see how it goes! Thanks!

Most of mine are set to "Always", and I haven't had any battery life problems. Apps don't normally access location services unless they actually need it anyway. To give you an idea, I unplugged my 6+ yesterday morning, and I'm at 51% right now.

My iPhone 5 is at 38%, 4:15pm right now and I haven't even watched any video on it today.

I have to turn off all the location services to get a day of use, which I find disappointing. I'm sure the 6 and 6+ are better, but I'm used to having everything (Google Now, location history, reporting, etc.) enabled on my Android phones and still lasting through a day of good use.

I have to say, the battery on my 5c is pretty awesome. I can fidget all day and never have the feeling i 'need' a charger. It's the best of all the many smartphones i've used.

I've hardly used my phone today, and I am at 82% and have been flipping between Edge, 3G, and LTE all day.

Man - old iPad 2. IOS 8 sucks the battery dry too fast - and it's got some odd quirks. I'll wait till I hear something positive on 8.0.2 before trying it (that was out bloody fast!).

If iOS 8 really is the cause of that, you could solve that just by reinstalling 7.1.2 (if still possible).

8.0.2 is out. Who wants to test???
My buddy with the iPhone 6 is on 8.0.2 and it fixed his cellular + SMS issues. He was one of the 40000 people who got borked yesterday.

I also just installed it on my iPhone 5s and it seems fine so far. Haven't tested it much though.

Thanks, but the best one can do to remain as secure as possible with mobile stuff appears to be keeping the OS up to date. Well...aside from never using the internet and always paying by cash

So the next cutoff for iOS updates will be A6 based iDevices. iOS 8 is undoubtedly the last update for the iPhone 4S. So with that A6 cutoff that means the iPhone 5 will be the minimum for iOS 9. However, with no data whatsoever, I'm guessing that iOS 9 will have decent performance on the iPhone 5, because the A6 is just so much faster, and because the iPhone 5 has 1 GB RAM.

BTW, Bloomberg did something totally uncalled for regarding the iOS 8.0.1 fiasco. It published the name of an Apple middle manager claiming that specific manager was responsible for iOS 8 QA and therefore was responsible for the iOS 8.0.1 issues. Then in usual parrot fashion, the Apple rumour sites followed suit and published the name as well. IMO that was really, really bad form.

I know my issue is in the lowest % of iPhone users but here is my primary complaint with either the iPhone 6 or iOS 8. Not sure which is to blame.

I wear hearing aids. And the set I wear now actually have bluetooth functionality that allowed me to pair with the iPhone and use the phone mic for my voice and all audio went straight into my ears. It still works with the 6 and iOS 8 but seems extremely laggy when trying to connect.

Example:

1) Press call button
2) Wait
3) Wait
4) Finally connects to my hearing aids
5) Person has either answered and already hung up, or I'm already listening to voice mail

This is just poor and not sure I want to wait around for a fix. Is it software? Is it 1GB of ram?

For the record I'm also noticing spotty audio connection with my car. If it does actually connect to my car it will eventually decide to swap over to my hearing aids for no apparent reason so I have to manually force to change it back. The car hasn't changed. The hearing aids haven't either. The variables are the phone and OS.

Any ideas? Know of a good outlet to report this (specifically on the hearing aid front)?

I installed last night, so far no issues and it has fixed some issues not mentioned in the release notes, one of which was it flipping to landscape mode and not wanting to come out in certain apps requiring me to kill the app to restore proper orientation

I've heard there were some bluetooth issues with 8.0, they were supposed to be fixed in 8.01 which should also be resolved in 8.02, i suggest giving it a shot, so far I've had good luck with the new update.

I hate to say it, but I've had the opposite. My IP2 has had better battery life so far on 8 than 7. It's sat next to my bedstand and it's still holding pretty steady in battery life. I want to say on 7 it drained a bit faster.

I didn't see a significant difference in battery life on my iPad 2. Here is Ars' test:

And for standby for my iPad 2, both iOS 7 and iOS 8 lasted a very, very long time.

Updated this morning and no change, at least on the hearing aid front. Apparently the voice portion is working (I've been told the person on the other end can hear me) but I'm not able to hear anything on my end.

Hmm, I found a game open that I don't play. I suspect my wife just didn't want to walk to the living room and get her iPad out of her work satchel and has been using mine (which is usually in the living room). So, IOS 8 is off the hook for that.

I'd like an A8 based iPad, but that depends on whether or not I upgrade my aging PC system next year.

Is it me or were underlined links never broken like this before? Can someone on pre-iOS 8 check? It'll help me sleep

Glad to see Bluetooth connectivity issues are being called out on the macrumours site. People are primarily complaining about cars and 'other devices' but hopefully whatever is done to fix this will fix the issue I'm having with hearing aids not working properly with the 6.
