iOS 9.1 on 4th Generation iPad

I know that I won't get the multitasking features of iOS 9.1 on my 4th gen iPad, but from past experience, I'm sure it won't be long before some apps will not install on my iPad if I don't upgrade from 8.4 to 9.1.

Has anyone here installed 9.1 on a 4th gen iPad yet? If so, is there a noticeable performance hit (meaing... does it feel at all sluggish)?

I don't have an iPad 4 (A6X). All I can say is it runs fine on the iPhone 5 (A6).

That said, if you don't have a strong reason to use iOS 9, then iOS 8 is fine. What's becoming problematic these days for software compatibility is iOS 7 and definitely iOS 6. iOS 8 is still OK for now in my experience.

I wish I didn't upgrade to iOS 9 on my iPad 2. 9.0 was a disaster on the iPad 2 but I downgraded to 8.x. However, then I upgraded the iPad 2 again when 9.1 landed and it was a big improvement over 9.0, but it's still slow. However, by that time, we could no longer downgrade to 8.x. Here's hoping 9.2 will be faster than 9.1 on the iPad 2.

9.1 is awesome on my iPad Air 2 though.

9.2 beta 4 is better than 9.1. Both have been fine on my iPad Air 1, iPad Mini 2 Retina and iPhone 5s.

Though all 3 devices are much faster than an iPad 4.

iOS 8.4 was a bit faster on all my devices. iOS 9.1/9.2 is nearly as fast, but not quite.

However, it is very usable and I don't regret it.

On the other hand on my old iPad 3 Retina iOS 7 used to suck. That is when I sold it and got my iPad Air.

My 3 latest iDevices run iOS 9.1/9.2/8.4 better than my iPad 3 used to run iOS 7.

So I'm not sure how good or bad your iPad will run iOS 9.1.

The simple rule of thumb is, if you were fine on iOS 8.4, iOS 9.1/9.2 will only be slightly worse.

iOS 9.2 is faster than iOS 9.1 is faster than iOS 9.

i've always regretted updating the OS on my ipad 2. It runs so slow now... I can only surf one webpage at a time.

Since upgrading to iOS 9.1 my wifi connection has been pretty terrible. Have to disconnect and reconnect a few times per day then it'll work fine for a day and start again. All other devices are on the old iOS and don't have this issue.

I am in the process of replacing our family's iPad 2 and my kid's iPad 3's. All are running iOS 9.1 and for kids apps, these iPads are still fine. Where the iPad's lag terribly is the multitasking and web browsing.

We have already agreed to replace them with iPad Air and Air 2 and hand the older iPad's to our family members who do not have any kind of tablet yet, so someone should still be happy and enjoy them
