IP35-E wont turn on

Hey,

I have a IP35-E Abit Motherboard. I hooked up all my equipment (my PSU is 500 watts) and the CPU fan didn't even turn on. I notice that there is a red light on (as per the manual indicating that power is going to the motherboard).

I checked the jumper settings (almost 100 times), I have removed all Hardware and tested (left only the mb, cpu, cpu fan, and 1 stick of memory attached).

I tried resetting the CMOS etc. not luck.

I have no idea what is wrong and the real kicker is I have TWO exact systems (all new parts, exact same parts) that both do not turn on.

If the red lights on both MB's are lit, that means it should be ready to power up. If you have a speaker to plug into the motherboard from an older system, plug it in and see if there is any kind of error code being emitted. Try another power supply, make sure you have the 4 pin cpu power hooked up, the case power switch is on the right spot. I really cant think of anything else. IF both systems are the exact same parts, its likely the same part on both that aren't working. I doubt its the exact same two parts that are defective, so it leads me to believe that something is incompatible.

Give up some more information on your power supply.

That is a weird one pnote. There were some issues with compatable PSUs...which one are you using?

what are the rest of the parts? every time I have had an issue similar to that it has been a RAM problem

Actually I'm having the same problem that this guy is describing. Using an Antec EA-500 with Gigabyte P35-DS3L. I've made sure everything is hooked up right but nothing turns on when I hit the power button. PSU fan, doesn't spin, heatsink fan doesn't spin, like there's no power going to it. I've retested it by taking out the mobo and laying it on the gigabyte box to eliminate possible grounding, took one stick of ram out leaving one in, removed the video card and tried it again. Still the same thing.

At this point I figured either the gigabyte board is bad or the Antec PSU is bad. I disconnected the EA500 and plugged in an older generic 300w having a 20pin ATX from an older machine. To my surprise, that powered up and POST just fine. Perhaps I'm not connecting the right 12v cable on the board? The only other thing I see different is that the EA500 ATX connector is missing a PIN8;(power good signal). By that I mean there's just a hole there for that pin position; there's no metal contact or actual wire behind it.

Any help or suggestions to try are appreciated.

I dont think the Pin8 will make a difference as I have seen many psu's with it missing that seem fine.

Seems to be way too many issues with certain PSU's and the p35 chipset.

When Abit recommends an EPS 8-pin connector you have to think that at some point in their testing a power issue surfaced to cause their recommendation.

In some instances it's not a problem but seems in your case it is.

I would verify that you are not using a PCIe 4-pin instead of the mobo 4-pin. Other than that your mobo may be one of the ""EPS 8-pin"" guys ...

This MB should fire up with your PSU.
From the manual, p. 1-7:
[ATX12V1]: 8-pin power connector This connector supplies +12V power to CPU. You may connect either a 4-pin ATX12V or an 8-pin EPS12V power source. However, it is recommended to connect the 8-pin EPS12V power source to meet the 240VA protection limits.
Possible short when installed in the case? Try starting it up with the MB ouside the case.

I have a psu with a 4-pin connector plugged into the 8-pin power connector, no problems.
