I have an iPad 2 (model A1397) which was proclaimed to be dead/unfixable by an Apple store (according to the customer).
It shows the low battery icon (large battery with three small red lines) and then will eventually jump to the Apple logo for a while, before switching back to the battery icon. When plugged into the wall, it will repeat that cycle continuously.
Figuring there was a firmware problem, I put the iPad into DFU mode, plugged it into a computer, then iTunes prompted to restore the firmware.
The restore seemed to work OK, as I saw all of the restoring and verifying messages on the computer and saw the progress bar on the iPad screen.
However, even after iTunes said the restore was successful, the boot loop cycle described above continues.
I have tried doing the firmware recovery on both a Mac and PC, and have tried both DFU mode (screen off) and recovery mode (connect to iTunes picture shown on iPad screen).
The only thing I can think of is that the battery is not charging, either because it is shot or because I don't have the official iPad charger.
I have tried both my HP TouchPad charger (12 watts) and another 10 watt charger, and used two different Apple USB cables, but it doesn't make a difference.
I have had it plugged in for a few hours now, but the battery icon still appears - so I'm assuming the device isn't charging.
Is there anything else I can do, or is this iPad destined for sale on eBay for parts??
