So I went to the mall to get my N4 ghost-armored (Matte finish! What a beauty!), and conveniently an Apple store is right next to it. So while waiting for my phone's to be armored, I went in and started playing with iPad mini and iPhone 5. They took SIMs out of all mobile devices for some reason so I couldn't make calls, but Facetime calls were possible using Apple IDs.
I was again impressed by the build quality and design of iPad mini. There is really nothing to fault for other than its low PPI for text. (and it doesn't fit in my jean pocket) I had my Nexus 7 with me and its camera was simply no match for mini's camera. When I bought one for my nephew last year I didn't pay much attention - especially its front camera - and today I got to appreciate its overall finish. Good job, Apple. Even though I will never use one, I have to give it to Apple for its design prowess.
Then I moved onto look at the real thing - iPad (4th Gen, Retina display). First impression? Too heavy. Last impression? Too heavy! I couldn't believe how my perception had changed. Having played with Nexus 7 for the past couple of months, and right after being awed by iPad mini's lightness, I couldn't get over how heavy iPad was. I have a first gen iPad at home that usually sits in the bathroom, but haven't really thought about its weight. Maybe it's because it's used in the bathroom, I'm guessing.
Now, I know that this statement makes just about everything else larger than 7" in the world heavy as well, but that's how I frankly felt. iPad did not feel portable enough - "portable" as in carrying it by itself. I feel like I need to put it in a bag when carrying it around.
