That is all.
Ipad = More expensive netbook with worse battery life, lower performance, and does much less in general.
How many netbooks get 10 hours of battery life, play HD video, have a tounch screen and are less than $500?

The same holds true for the App Store, but they have a huge variety at the same time. I've spent about $500 in the App Store, there's not a single thing I need to do day to day I can't on my iPod.
1. there isn't a netbook that gets close to 10 hours battery life, even with an expensive, bulky add on battery
2. apples to oranges, netbooks are typically slow and sluggish. The iPad looks very quick and responsive. An unfair comparison because they're 2 different devices though. The processor isn't as fast, but it doesn't have to be. A Netbook will be running a full blown OS, this won't. I've used many different Netbooks and was always left unimpressed by the performance. I watched some video of the iPad live and it looks to be far more responsive than any netbook I've used.
3. no it doesn't, maybe lack of Flash, okay. I have an iPhone & an iPod Touch. I can't think of anything I can't do on it, but I can do many things on it I can't do on my PC. Again, apples to oranges. The App store has a shit load of apps, if you need to do something chances are there's an app for it. Probably 5 or 10 to choose from. Obviously a PC has more software choices, but you have hundreds that do the same thing. The same holds true for the App Store, but they have a huge variety at the same time. Netbooks are only "slow and sluggish" if you try to do something intensive and compare it to a full blown desktop PC, an Ipad would be no different. You probably won't even have the option to run an intensive kind of task even if you wanted to try it on an Ipad.
Netbooks can run applications like Google Chrome and Office perfectly fine. They do more than one task at the same time. They can play yesteryear's PC games extremely well, stuff that you'd run on a Pentium 3 or Athlon such as any number of Command & Conquers, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Starcraft etc... Netbooks can also play flash games on the web, something the Ipad will probably never do. Flash is kind of a big issue too, a lot bigger than Ipad apologists are admitting. Physical keyboard? Storage capacity? You'll never be able to find something the Ipad can do that the Netbook can not do, and you'd be hard pressed to find something the Ipad does better.
Ack I'm glad I clicked that link and got referred through something with the words 'detonator' and 'dynamite' while at work.

The details aren't entirely lacking.
It has a 1024x768 resolution 9.7" LED backlit glossy IPS LCD widescreen screen.
That's what Apple say. Don't ask how it's 1024x768 and widescreen, I don't know, that's just what Apple say.
And it supports 720p content. Again, don't ask how that works.
* 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology
* 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)
# H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second

And no HD output even with dock connector.
And based on checking out one of the pictures on the website, it's 4:3, so it's not a widescreen display at all...
First of all, the netbooks linked are less than $500....a decent ipad will be way over $500...even over $800. Next, netbooks are not slow and sluggish. As already mentioned, they are capable of doing many things the ipad cannot do, including multitasking. I would also like to point out that they can do everything the Ipad can do, and they include way more storage. Let's see, 250gb for $399 or 16gb for $500? Tough decision. You also keep mentioning that you saw some videos of the ipad, "and it looks fast." Are you really basing you entire opinion on some videos produced and edited by Apple? There product is completely locked, and if it were blazing fast, simply can't do what the most basic netbooks can. Sounds a lot like how the Iphones can't do what basic phones were able to do for years, like text and what not....yet you were expected to pay a premium. You should probably wait until you can play with an ipad for awhile and see if it lives up to your expectations.
I'm multitasking on my iPhone right now, so I'm going to gather less than a week after the iPad comes out it will be jailbroke and you'll be able to multitask away till your hearts content. Even if it takes longer than a week, it will get jailbroke and multitasking will be a feature. I don't need to use it to know about the speed, it's essentially an iPhone with a way faster processor. My logic tells me it can't be anything but fast, as my iPhone flies thru most shit I do. The extra resolution won't slow it down for most apps, but the extra CPU speed will make a huge difference. I don't have expectations for it, except it'll a lot bigger and worlds faster. Neither of those things require me playing with it to know. And since I have thousands of hours on my iPhone, I know exactly what to expect. An iPhone on steriods that won't fit in my pocket.
I will be buying one, but mostly because I think it will make the most kick ass universal remote, and it's MUCH cheaper than the Pronto I was looking at. Which costs $1,00 and does nothing but function as a remote. And with the right app this should make an even better remote than said Pronto.

Yes. but why should people pay way more for an item that can't do simple tasks, stock from the factory. You need to jailbrake your iphone which voids it in apple's eye's in order to make it worth having and that is simply unacceptable, that and it still can't make a phone call...so let's call it an igadget...and not an iphone. The Ipad is completely overpriced for what it is. You should at the very least be able to accomplish what a $399 netbook can accomplish out of the box.
VOIP over 3G actually does make it a phone, it's going to be the next big thing...
With Skype, it makes it a $20/month phone.
disclaimer: i know this guy really does work for apple, but i really dont know his role there, so i usually take everything he says about it all with a grain of salt.

Because for all it doesn't do, it does something a netbook can't do. Every device has trade offs, Multitasking out of the box would be awesome. But so would having a touch screen, even if it requires jailbreaking (for now any ways) you could do that with an iPad. But, you're not going to make a $399 netbook have a touch screen mult-touch display. The appeal of this to me is the touch screen. I've seen touch screen laptops, but they cost A LOT. I believe multi tasking will come with OS 4.0. But even if it doesn't, knowing I can hack it is fine with me. I never leave any of my devices stock any ways (what fun is that lol)
I'm on the fence here, I won't be rushing out to buy one of these. But possibly 7 or 8 months after it's been out I might pick one up.
i thought there was no headphone jack on it? if there is, that would work. if not, it would be some awkward phone calls on speakerphone.
i doo have an acquaintance that works for apple here in az tho, and last saturday we were giving him shit about the ipad. he took it very personally, and decided to treat us to a diatribe about the future of the ipad. apparently he is one of the devs/ testers for the iphone apps as well as the ipad now. i couldnt get any real cool info from him and i was admittedly drunk so the stuff he did say is a bit fuzzy a week later but he did say there was upgrades already on the table. he also said flash was a non issue and bluetooth was already in them.
if bluetooth is on them, a headset may be a way to get the skype thing to work well.
iPad would've been a decent product if they'd put OSX on it instead of iPhone OS.
The iPhone (and iPod Touch) run an operating system known as iPhone OS. It is based on a variant of the same Darwin operating system core that is found in Mac OS X. Also included is the "Core Animation" software component from Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard. Together with the PowerVR hardware (and on the iPhone 3GS, OpenGL ES 2.0),[3] it is responsible for the interface's motion graphics.
