iPad Web Browser Rated 17+?

I was looking at iTunes earlier and I noticed the popular free download for the iPad was some browser called Terra:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/terra-web-browser-tabs-full/id394704159?mt=8

I was a bit surprised that a message popped up when I went to download it, but even more surprised when it was asking about my age. Apparently, because one can access pornographic content on the web, it makes a web browser require a 17+ rating .

Do you think it's a rightful rating or a ploy to try and make people think twice about using a different browser? I mean, if that's true... then anything with a browser built in should be rated 17+. The Facebook app is rated 4+; however, there can be cursing, pornographic links, etc.

I haven't tried it yet, but I do much prefer the idea of tabs!

I think it's there to warn parents that the browser maybe used to view things that are 17+. Just like how some Xbox games, it may have a lower rating but will have a warning saying, Online play has no rating because cursing, sexual language, etc can be used.

I see it like the "Coffee maybe hot" warnings. Apple just trying to cover their ass.

It's not bad for a free browser but Atomic is much better overall, if only for blocking ads

That was my initial thought, but that's why I checked Facebook's rating. There are no rules against posting profanity or lewd links that I've ever seen. So, a child could easily come across questionable content with that application as well, but it's rated 4+. It's apparently safe enough for a kid not even in kindergarten.

EDIT:

I'll check that browser out.

You know what my #1 gripe with Safari is? I don't recall if there's a setting to change this, but whenever I open a new "page", it always defaults to the Google search bar. Even on my PC, I maybe open a new tab to perform a Google search 1/10 times. I find it annoying that I have to open a new page (typically near the bottom of the screen), move up and click into the small address bar area, and then back down to the keyboard :\.

EDIT 2:

It looks like the Atomic web browser is also marked as 17+:

Safari is extremely limited...

Atomic lets you use/load a home page (Safari doesn't have a homepage option), display keyboard or open your bookmarks when you hit "new tab".

Oh yea, and there are tabs just like a desktop browser.

I would say it's even more useful on an iPhone than the iPad, but once you buy it on the iPad, it's available for free on your iPhone anyway (as are most apps that are built for both).

If you have the cash available, I'd suggest purchasing iCab Mobile.

Just a few differentiators from other browsers (of course it does have stuffs other browsers have):
- It has offline caching, so pages can load faster and lost tabs can resume faster.
- It has an upload feature so you can finally upload to Imageshack without an account. Also works for most simple HTML upload forms. Great tool for business.
- It has custom adblock filters that lets you specify exactly what you'd like to block and what not to.
- It has more browser user agent options than almost everything out there. You can spoof yourself as anything, even as an Android phone or a PlayStation 3.
- You can customize gestures up to 4 fingers.
- Modules support, think Extensions or Add-ons. There are a good number of them for different things. You can also change text size, scroll to bottom, top, etc...
- Convert webpage to ePub. No, really, there is an extension to do that.
- Password-protect your History and Cookies, or enable Guest Mode.
- Password-protect your saved forms (so it password-protect your passwords...).
- Customize, add, edit or delete custom search engines. Just in case you dislike Google.
- Sync bookmarks/filters/downloads with PC or Mac.
- Selectively delete cookies pertaining to a certain website.

I think that about covers most of it...

Too many mobile browsers, not enough time .

I'll give Atomic a bit of a "test drive" for about a week, and if I'm not satisfied, I'll check out iCab Mobile.

I have Mercury as a third party browser, it has adblock as well. I like it the best so far, BUT.....I ended up going back to Safari for one reason.

The problem I have with these other browsers is that, a lot of them crash or hang if there is HTML5 stuff. For instance, when google has HTML5 animations on it's home search page, it will hang and try to load forever.

This doesn't happen too often (only certain animation stuff). So it might be a moot point 80% of the time. I like to know my tabs won't crash though since it doesn't save that well like desktop browsers.

Hmm Atomic has one pretty big flaw... I can't seem to click into these Quick Reply (or normal reply) text boxes on this forum :\. Oh well, at least it was only a dollar!

It needs to be identified as mobile safari iPad or iPhone. Change it manually, this issue applies to all 3rd party browsers. I'm posting this from Atomic.

Ahh okay, that works... thanks!

Now, I just need to figure out why Tiert randomly lets button presses go through to whatever is behind the keyboard

the problem with terra is that you can't make bookmarks. At least not that I've found.

I've been pretty satisfied with Atomic so far.

Atomic is perfect on iPad, it has some GUI choices I don't particularly like on the iPhone (I tend to hit the X and close the search dialog when I just wanted to erase the text.. things like that).

I've been using it on m phone mostly these past days (my iPad is WiFi only), and it's not too bad on it. I have accidentally closed a tab when I meant to open a new one .

The full screen feature works wonders on the small screen!

Ctrl - T: New Tab
Ctrl - L: Begin Typing in Location Bar.

Command - T / L on a Mac.

Why use the mouse if you don't have to?
