My 16GB black ATT 3G finally shipped. I have the original unlimited data plan from my gen 1 iPad.

Honestly, if Netflix would get off it ass or high horse or whatever and release an app for Android, I'd get a XOOM or something else.

Looks like another year with an iPad for me.

I am not sure its a Netflix issue.
They use Silverlight which is owned by Microsoft. Its doesnt cost anything to use (you download it free on your computer) but I wouldnt be surprised if they restrict its use to WinMo.

I'm not sure of the tech they use for the iOS app, but it's awesome to have a gajillion b rated movies and some a rated movies on a tablet...

My buddy and his wife came to visit us last night and she brought her iPad 2. Wow, I want one now, that is one slick device.

Netflix is claiming it's a DRM issue. They say that with Android's openness and hackability that people will be able to pirate the content. So they are implementing DRM at the chip level. So when it does come out it won't be compatible with older phones, you will have to buy a new one. I haven't seen anything on an estimated release date. This is also my major stickler on tablet choice as well. I've used Android on Sprint all the way back to the Hero and want to stay in the same ecosystem but at the same time if I spend the money on a tablet I want Netflix on it.

You're in the ballpark. It is a DRM issue, but Netflix is correctly claiming that it's due to a lack of a unified DRM platform. It's not the openness and hackability, because frankly that exists for iOS too. It's that they would have to write, test and deploy a DRM platform for each device that they wanted to support. Android doesn't have anything out of the box that would fulfill Netflix's contractual obligations to the content owners - and that's all they care about. Netflix is a business, and if they weren't obligated to protect the content they deliver, they wouldn't give a shit if people ripped it off.

Given Apple's success in media delivery, they baked DRM into iOS. Android has no such requirement in hardware, nor a software layer that would implement it. That's why some newer devices are slated to support Netflix - the handset maker is including a DRM stack.

It's too heavy. :| Before I got the device I was expecting about one half of the weight. Maybe I was expecting too much? I guess that glass and battery is taking up most of the weight.

i think it is kind of a placebo effect, or a physic trick.

If you let the weight of the device do the grunt work and not try to clutch it as tight, then I think it'll feel a lot lighter.

In fact, try to grip it higher instead of mid body or down below. The device's weight will make it push against your hand naturally, and it'll suddenly feel a lot lighter.

I do that whenever I'm reading anything for a long time. My arm can last on average around 45 minutes with my elbow resting on something else.

Yeah my hands get tired holding them after a while. Thanks for the tip. I will try your method.

Arg. All I want is a decent and easy unteathered jailbreak for the iPad 2. I purposefully have not updating to 4.3.2 for that reason, but so far my waiting has still been in vain. iPad 1, iPhone 4, AppleTV? All jailbroken easily for 4.3.1.

My wife can't really start to use it in her life till I get on-demand tether going for her. Plus I want to see an emulator run on the thing (ok I will be honest almost everything I want is on the jailbreak side).

I will never ever ever buy one of these for myself after this experience. Too powerful of a device to waste with such a locked down OS. I don't need Neflix, my mediaserver beats the crap out of Netflix's library.

What exactly do you need a jailbreak for? I can list a few reasons why that may be necessary, but I didn't really find jailbreaking my iPad 1 a thrill.

Just a quick note on the new 4.3.2 update. It seems to have added a bit more bass or low-end response to my iPad 2. It's on par with my MacBook Pro 2010 now, but the high-end on the iPad 2 is still significantly clearer and more detailed.

Any way to test this for myself?

As I said, main thing for her is on-demand bluetooth tether. Also I want to enable some sort of mass storage mode so I can leave iTunes behind as that will allow me to give her content more easily.

For me I want a few emulators, and Frash.

Try headphones. If you feel a difference, then it's there. Use blank sound or white noise if you want to isolate other sounds and get a better listening.

In case you want to see hard numbers, I'm fairly confident with GSMArena's results and test methods:

There are ways to transfer music, movies and books back and forth between iPad and computer (either Mac or PC, no Linux as far as I'm concerned), but you still need iTunes one way or another for its drivers.

If you miss Flash, try installing Splashtop Remote on the iPad and download their free server on the PC, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. The only drawback is you need a PC running, but hey...

I think you should call your local Apple Store just to be sure. Toys R Us got some iPad 2s in just recently, so that'd be a good place to check in case nobody bothers over there.

Screen protector is totally unnecessary unless you plan to use your knife as a stylus. I'm using the Smart Cover and loving it, but some people may not like it due to concerns about the back. Personally, mine hasn't gotten as much as a hairline scratch over the last month.

I think the best way is to just order it from Apple. I don't have the time to stand in lines and drive all over town chasing iPads.

This is android pad; hum.... Wish it was easy to plug in micro-sd memory cards; or tether. Is it even possible to tether the wifi-only version ?

Just got a case for my iPad,

I had a handful of Amazon GC's lying around, I like that the back is covered, that was my biggest complaint about the smart cover. This thing has the magnets in the flap, works pretty well.
