Lol @ the slicing. It's good to hear that the iPad 2 is pretty refined. I just wish it's browser did more.

I haven't tried out the Xoom yet so I don't know how good the browser is on that but from reading the reviews the browser is real good on it. I just don't know anyone who has one.

Tomorrow morning my brother and I are going to the Apple store to wait in line at 6am and sell our iPads. We called and they're getting a shipment in so hopefully we can make some money.

My iPad 2, born in China, is heading back to the motherland on the gray market.

I can wait a month for mine to ship from Apple; the extra cash people are paying to have one "now" was too ridiculous to pass up.

Need some techies to help with this one.

The glass on the IPAD2 ... is it scratch-resistant ?
Resistant, but not scratch-proof. I had my hands on dozens of original iPads over the past year; I would say at least half had some scratches on the glass.

Apple uses Gorilla Glass on the iPad, but I have some serious doubts about their implementation with it. I've used other devices that also had Gorilla Glass, like the Zune HD, Droid 1/2, Galaxy S, etc. and I've found that iDevices are more susceptible to scratches. You can take keys to the screen of a Zune HD without a mark, but try that on an iPad and you'll be disappointed.

Maybe I should do that, there were still a couple left at my local Wal-Mart.

Indeed. I live in a medium-sized city and early-adopters/prospectors snatched up everything in the metro area over the weekend.

I got my bill in from my iPad buying spree on the iTunes store... a good $40 worth of apps . Still have plenty of space left, so I need to find more apps .

That would be because they aren't using Corning Gorilla Glass. On the iPhone 4, they advertise it as using an alumino-silicate glass, something very similar to Gorilla Glass, but it is not. In much the same way that not all facial tissues are Kleenex, and not all inline skates are RollerBlades, not all scratch resistant alumino-silicates are Gorilla Glass.

But the iPhone 4 is the only one that they specifically mention as having that, and they have never shied away from namedropping features in multiple products.

The iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G are pretty scratch resistant.

I put the iPod and my Moto Droid in the same pocket. BOTH have scratches and BOTH have gone screenprotectorless for about the same time.

The iPod is probably more susceptible to scratching due to the fact that my Droid has metal edges that could scratch it up. On the other hand the iPod Touch has a case for it and the screen is recessed so typically when palced face to face with my Droid it won't get scratched.

I have too many friedns with the iPhone 4 and only 1 of them has scratches on it. It's all very minuscule and comparable to what I have on my Droid in terms of scratches. I honestly don't think the iPhone 4 is significantly more scratch prone due to its nonusage of Gorilla Glass. It's clearly something comparable.

Got here at the Apple Store in Cerritos, CA @ 6am and there`s already a line of 20 people. It`s opening at 9am.

Edit:

Ugg weak taco bell mild sauce. There were about 30 in line and Apple Store people came out at around 7:30 to tell everyone they weren't getting any in today. Oh well. I was just going to flip them anyways.

Crap, I called around a bit last night, about 1/2 the stores confirmed they were opening early but said they weren't getting iPads in, WTF????

It just wouldn't be an Apple launch without drama

There's nothing wrong with people wanting something right now and waiting in line all day for it. They just have no lives so more power to them. If that's the one thing they can do all year that can make them happy then more power to them.

Yes, because reading Anandtech and posting snide remarks is so much more fullfilling than spending a few hours hanging out in line with the various people you meet at such occasions, invariably including people who could become friends, or even lovers, just like any other activity you do with real people..

Yea everyone thought since they were opening early there were going to be iPads there and they said that they're going to open early again tomorrow but didn't know if they were getting them in either. Might go again tomorrow morning not sure yet. Now off to work.

I waited in line for the iPhone 4, but I pretty much had to as I would be out a phone for a month.

Charlie Rose had a good bit on the iPad 2 last night, with Walt Mossberg and David Carr, I loved listening to them try to describe the attraction, they basically said "When you hold one you want one." They also suggested the cover will become an industry standard.

Walt was realistic about Android tablets, it was pretty good show. The link is about 1/2 way down right side of the page.

Another interesting comment was "If you sit next to someone with one, you'll want it, and if you have the money, you'll go out and get it."

Walt also mentioned what's happening with iPad owner's laptops, they're upgrading less frequently, because they use the iPad for many tasks...

One more thing, Walt emphasised something I really agree with, the iPad/tablets are a disruptive tech, and a fundamentally different device that's is and will continue to change the market.

EDIT:

Quite a few of these games were on sale as well... for example, DH2 was only 99 cents when I got it.

Wow, unexpected. iMovie on iPad 2 beats out a lot of Macs.

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/03/15/imovie-on-ipad-2-beats-most-macs-in-benchmarks/

In everything. From copying to encoding.

At the end of the day optimization and UX are the things that the majority of consumers are looking for on a tablet. This is why Android will fail on tablets. People thought when Apple announced the iPad 2 that is was barely a refresh but now everyone is seeing how it packs some serious hardware inside. The only device I can see going toe to toe with the iPad is the HP Touchpad and WebOS but the only way HP has even a remote shot of being competitive is to stop trying to emulate what Apple did with each last generation iPad and worry more about what they are going to do with the new one. Hardware refreshes have to come out every year and they not only have to match Apple's pricing but try to undercut it.

Call me crazy but I see foresee a quad Cortex A9 and a PowerVR 543MP4 on the iPad 3.

Funny enough I think the UI is the iPad 2's biggest weakness now that Apple finally gave it adequate hardware. One of the main things I want in a tablet is a modern UI like WebOS, Honeycomb, or BB tablet OS not a grid of icons that looks like it came strait out of the 90's

The iPad 3 better have at least those specs, nvidia is supposed to have quad core Tegra 3 SoC's ready later this year and you can be sure they will be showing up in Android tablets.

I'm not sure I get your comment. A5 stomps the Tegra 2, I don't see a reason why the iPad 3 wouldn't be somewhat competitive to Tegra 3.

Lets focus on what is available to buy today. Too much I hear..."it'll be better, faster, more polished".

I suppose, if that suits your assertion. Prior to the iPad 2 release you and others like you were all too quick to state that any tablet should be rated against the forthcoming iPad 2, rather than the available iPad 1. :hmm:
