isn't the tablet/ipad more of a media consumption device? It's better to watch a movie on the airplane with 16:9 panel, than the 4:3 panel. If people are okay with shrinking a movie into 4:3, why not shrink a financial report on a 16:9? Especially since you can and pane and zoom on a pdf file.

16:9 is only good for one thing, watching videos. People who read and surf the web outnumber those that watch videos alone.

I really hope the iPad never goes to 16:9, hate that ratio for everything but TVs and it's OK on a phone. Every tablet that's 16x9 I've used feels just wrong, way to narrow. The reason why it doesn't work for me is I read a lot of financial reports and they all come in PDF which just sucks at 16x9.

I'm with you on this one. Sure, a widescreen aspect ratio is better for watching movies, but a tablet is useful for much more than simply watching video. For everything else, such as reading books and surfing the web, I find the 4:3 aspect ratio to be superior.

For video however I can see the draw of a 16:9 iPad Mini. On a 10" device it isn't a huge sacrifice to have black bars on widescreen video content because the screen is big enough that it doesn't make a huge difference. On a smaller device I can see those black bars becoming an annoyance.

I remember when the iPhone 5 was delayed until October the android camp claimed that Apple is now going to take a year plus to release all their new iDevices. It was 'too long' between release dates. Now Apple has (just one time, mind you) released a new ipad earlier than expected. The same people in the android camp are now claiming apple will release new devices at least every 6 months. So which one is it?

One device does not make a trend. If this next one is released in March then its the beginning of a trend. I don't think you have any ground to stand on until that happens.

Apple created their empire with great products. Their sales are real and not just because of 'marketing'. Last time I checked, the iPad is still completely smoking the competition.

Please show me these android devices that have a better resale value than their Apple counterpart. I've never seen an example before.
16GB open box Nexus 4 is being sold for $530+ on eBay. Used for $500+
That's more than the $349 that I paid for it, sealed brand new. So yes...I'd say that so far, its holding its value pretty well.

I also haven't seen Nexus 7 being sold at a massive discount anywhere either.

Post multiple eBay auctions of the iPhone being sold at 50% over MSRP with multiple bids?

You are willfully deluding yourself. That phone was just released and Google is out of stock. Come back in 1 year if you want to talk about resale value and depreciation.

You get the dumbest thing I have read today award, by quite a bit too, grats

Ever checked the layout of a printed page excluding the margins? Give you a hint, it's a lot closer to 16:9 then 4:3. And then of course, gaming- I know, not something that you can really do on iOS so it doesn't matter...... right?

16:9 = 1.77:1
4:3 = 1.33:1

Standard US paper
297mm x 210mm = 1.414:1

Who has the dumbest post again?

As for gaming, mobile games don't have black bars.

Standard US paper

To quote myself-

excluding the margins?

Reference point-

Paper Size and Margins
The standard size for paper in the United States is 8 ½ by 11 inches. Do not use legal-size paper, which is 8 ½ by 14 inches, for business correspondence.

Proper margins for a letter or a memo are from 1 ¼ to 1 ½ inches on the right and left sides.

Letterhead can begin from ½ inch to 1 ¼ inches from the top of the page. This also applies to any other typing at the top of a page, such as the page number lines, but not to the text itself, which should be 1 ¼ inches from the top or two lines below the page number lines.

http://www.idiotsguides.com/static/...ess_101_writing_a_formal_business_letter.html

Using minimum margin for left/right and maximum for top,

6x9.75= 1.63

Legal is 2.13, 16:9 isn't even wide enough. As I stated, accurately- 16:9 is closer to a printed document text excluding margins then 4:3- 16:9 isn't even wide enough for legal documents, but obviously much closer then 4:3. Quite frankly the bezels offer me all the margin I need.

So, really you're disregarding all facts and sense, deciding to actually alter the size of paper just so you can fit some idiotic fanboy argument.

Case closed.

Margins exist mainly due to bindings requiring them. On a single sheet of paper they remain due to being able to hold the paper without covering the text.

I'm not the lunatic drooling into a bucket claiming that tablets need to leave room for bindings.

Excluding margins? Lol

Lets remove margins on web pages too. People don't normally read text that is to the very edge.

This is twisting to fit a fanboy's argument at its finest.

Here, look at this screenshot of AT on an iPad:

Now look at this screenshot of a sample paper:

ZOMG, where did the margins go?! Don't they know they serve a purpose?!

You know, most web sites put stuff in those areas you refer to as "margins." Usually important navigational stuff.

Actually no, most websites I've seen put those things at the top or bottom. If they do happen to be on the side, then aside from bad design, most people double tap the portion they actually care about and read full screen.

Paper has margins so that you can comfortably hold and read at the same time. Why is it that you don't see those margins on mobile devices? Perhaps because they have something called bezels which provide the same function.

Come on now you can't be serious with this one. Let's talk in a year and see how much its going for. There is only one reason its going that high on ebay and we both know the answer to that one.
